Found under the red respray,it's 1979 I can't remember ever seeing such a bright orange on any minis,any help much appreciated

IT looks a bit like vermillion paint codes CEA or CML used between 76 and 82

I agree with RedRuby, I had a Vermillion 1275GT in the '80s and that was bright orange

The FE number is just an assembley number used when the front end was attached to the rest of the shell in the factory

The paint code for Vemillion is BLVC 118

Hi i think vermillion is the red colour someone painted over the origional orange.its the orange colour in second pic im after

I had a Vermilion red mini and it does look just like the orange in your photos :)

Could be the same colour just faded it's amazing what years out side in all weathers does to a paint colour

Vermillion does tend to look a lot more orange than the paint books would suggest. It's one of my favourite 70s colour along with Pageant Blue.

As has been said it looks a lot brighter in the metal than on an old scanned colour chart. The chart I posted is from 1980, but there were no other orange colours available on the Mini from about 1978 to 1981.
