I'd lay pretty short odds on the whole engine number being 99H791P followed by your 6 digit engine number noted on the V5, most 998 engines from '73 to the introduction of the A+ were prefixed with that code.

Hey,

I have a question about a spare engine that I have and can't find what version it is.

I tried guessworks.com but didn't end to to find the right code.

My engine number is directly stamped in the block (no riveted plate) and has the number 99h36917. That all looks like an old stamping which takes nearly the whole place, so not much space for other letters/numbers.

So 998cc, and it is for sure an A engine looking at the alternator bracket. I can't say for other criterias as the engine is grabbed quite far...

I read on some forums that the australian engine didn't had a plate like our european ones? I would then be interesting ow the engine came across the whole world to land in France...

Thanks for your help

Gilles

Hello, I have a question about an old spare engine  I have.

I checked on Guess works to find more information but didn't get any

The number is directly stamped on the block (no plate) and takes the whole space.

It says 99H36917.

I can say it's a 998cc A-series engine due to the alternator bracket.

Can anyone give me more clues about it?

Thanks

Gilles

From the above post you can infer that it is either a really early 70's engine or late 60's. Unfortunately the details for these engines and their numbers is a little sketchy to say the least... As it's stampedon the block rather than on a riveted plate then take its genuity with a pinch of salt.

Ok, thanks for the information.

I wanted to be sure about its origins if it could have been some valuable engine.

I plan to rebuild it with slightly mods (I hope to get 60-ish HP) and mount it in my Mini 1979 998cc which I started to rebuild.
