To cut a long story short, my gran had only ever driven minis from passing her test (in the 50s!), so when they announced the BMW Mini she managed to pick up a “brand new” ex-demo mini in 2000 (the first new car she ever had) to make sure she had one which would last out her driving career.

Unfortunately she passed away in November 2014 and left the mini to me, knowing I'd always loved it and wanted to get it back to factory condition.

Queue January 2015 and the work is beginning. It still has only covered 19,000!

Unfortunately it has been stood (outside, near trees) for 4 years. Some pics to follow.

That's a moving little story. :highfive: I would keep it standard, with a few little modern touches.

Definitely a keeper. Got it up to a mates garage in Glossop to have a dog around and see how bad she was. Got a bit of a shock to say the least!!

Trust me, by late Mpi standards that's really good.  I'd be over the moon with that.

Great story and agreed with Shifty, doesn't look too bad compared to some. Should be a great project!

If that is the extent of the rot that's a right result. What are sills and jack points like? Also worth popping the front suspension mounts off to have a look.

Looks like the atypical MPi rot issues. The UV has destroyed the laquer on both the dash and the boot light housing. The front end (wings, front panel and scuttle) and sills will more than likely gone too. Did she used to do infrequent long journeys or regular short ones?

What are you plans for it?

I love a project with a story attached.

What's the boot floor like?

Works instructed so far:

Scuttle
Inner/outer sills (see scale of problem from inside shot of drivers side)
Both front floor pans
A Panels
Drivers door shut

Further investion to boot floor, inner wings etc.

Still more digging to do at it, but I know one wing was replaced 5 years ago (so probably shot lol). I'm tied up for the next few weeks.

As soon as I get chance I'll be stripping the full interior and all the body fittings off it to get a proper gague of it.

All damaged fittings will be replaced with new, full set of seals, followed by new dash, carpets, mats etc.

The aim is to get it on the London - Brighton to celebrate its new life.
