I have to restore the lower suspension arms on my rally clubman as the screw of the lower arm came loose and the arm came off resulting in total suspension failure...

I would like to know if you recommend the adjustable arms from minispares or minisport or better stay with standard (or neg. camber?) Whatever you think would be very interesting.

Thank you very much

Thomas

It depends on your TÜV. papers.

Then it depends on how equal your suspension is.

Fixed length ones would be good if you don't need to make any adjustments as they look original.

But.

Do you think it is not legal for road use? May be the Minispares adjustable ones might be better than, they look more standard? But is it worth to invest?

For a rally car the fixed arms do seem to be stronger. Some events don't allow adjustable lower arms as they were never homologated in Group 1 or Group 2.

For rallying I have found that 1 degree to 1.5 degrees negative on the front at standard ride height + about 1/2" is ideal for gravel and standard ride height for tarmac.

The rear suspension settings seem more critical on a rally car and zero to 0.5 degs negative with 1 mm to 2 mm toe-in seems to work best.

Are there TÜV papers with them? As you know in Germany if there are no papers and they are not original it gets fun.

Hence going for the remade ones with the built in camber change. They look original. There is nothing to make them look modified.

In the UK. Anything goes. Paper work not needed.

Thank you very much for the information. Yes TÜV is a nightmare and you can be lucky for not having it in the UK.

So I will go for the fixed arms with a bit of camber.

Any other hints concerning the suspension?

There are no hilos in the car, can I go to more rideheight with them?

again you have the TÜV problem. BUT you can just add a washer or two between the Knuckle joint (Kugelkopf) and the trumpet to raise the height there are some that have a longer pin to go into the trumpet.

Fitting new cones on the front will also help raise the suspension a little if your current cones are a little old and squashed.  I use the Minispares Red dot ones......seem to work fine for me.

To set the castor you need the adjustable tie-bars as sold by Mini Spares. They are much stronger than standard ones. If TuV is a problem use the standard ones for the test then switch to the adjustable ones.

On a rally Mini it is advisable to weld triangular plates to reinforce the tie-bar mounting 'ears' on the sub-frame, otherwise the ears bend when rallying.
