So this is my 1991 mini and I bought exactly how it is in the picture. I was wondering what you guys thought about the black rims as I'm not much of a fan of them but I don't know how I will get them repainted as I prefer them in the standard metallic silver alloy look as standard.

Another thing would be to put bonnet stripes on the car to make it look more mini and maybe even 2 rally headlights in the front and change the grille to a standard one as I don't like the new one at all. Would you guys also recommend installing a hed light set or would that ruin the mini look?

I know this may be a pointless topic but would just like your thoughts on what I could do to my mini on the outside.

I'm not a fan of black rims either, but unless they're in really bad condition it would be cheaper and a lot less hassle to buy another set and then sell these on as opposed to repainting them. Wavy grilles aren't to everyone's taste and in my opinion tend to look better as the mk1 version with the earlier moustache surround and on cars with other retro styled mods such as mk1 indicators and 10" rims. Personally I'd fit a standard Cooper straight slatted version instead. Unless it's what you specifically want, then I wouldn't go for the whole Rover Cooper bonnet stripes and fog lamps set up personally, as you'll just make your car look like everyone else's, If it were mine, then I'd swap to Silver rims and a Cooper grille and then also swap the indicator & side repeater lenses for the clear or smoked version and then go from there. The standard Orange items tend to look dated and in my opinion only work on 80's period styled models.

I'm not sure what the "hed light set" you're referring to is though, can you explain?

Ideally I would like to take some of the ideas from this mini like the grille and plain lights. The HED lights are pretty much led lights and are really bright.Attached File  image.jpeg   147.22K   10 downloadsAttached File  image.jpeg   147.22K   10 downloadsAttached File  image.jpeg   147.22K   10 downloadsAttached File  image.jpeg   147.22K   10 downloadsAttached File  image.jpeg   147.22K   10 downloadsAttached File  image.jpeg   147.22K   10 downloadsAttached File  image.jpeg   147.22K   10 downloadsAttached File  image.jpeg   147.22K   10 downloads

Will try and find out the size as I'm not really a fan of the black but would really like a silver set. They are currently on yokahomas on the front and back. I'm in Surrey pretty much south of London, where are you?

Do you mean HID headlights? High intensity discharge headlamps are illegal to fit without also having functioning auto levellers and headlamp washers. But an upgrade to halogens isn't a bad idea.

I'm in either bristol or Hampshire, so depending on size/ what you think of mine we might be able to sort something out?!?

I think your car looks cool as it is, youre almost saying shall i turn it into a cooper lookalike.  I wouldnt bother with adding spot lamps and I dont think bonnet stripes would suit it, but then i'm into less is more.  I'm not a fan of the wavy grille, maybe a cooper grille?

Well I want to do the bonnet stripes as I've always loved them. Was thinking about putting the grille that is on the latest mini which is quite enclosed. Does anyone know of any kit for an internal bonnet release and get rid of the standard external bonnet release.

YOUR MINI, YOUR CHOICE!

When looking for inspiration I just googled classic mini, but it looks like you have your mind set on what you want and luckily for you it's easily done. Good luck and keep us posted with pics.

You can pick up an internal release kit easily, I have used this one in the past:

Easy to install but I must admit I did feel a little ripped off. Not a lot for 30quid, supply and demand I suppose.

Does come with instructions (very easy) basically you replace the bonnet catch, the new one has the bonnet release cable attached, then route the cable alongside the o/s inner wing, through a grommet on the fire wall, then just attach the bracket that comes with it to the bottom dash rail but the end on the cable and VOILA! you will need to play around moving the new catch about to make sure it lines up right, but easy.
