I am looking to buy a new starter motor and noticed that there is an uprated unit (GXR1005) available from Minispares.

Their website mentions that it is not suitable for MPI without modifcation to the radiator brackets.

Anyone know what that entails ?

It's because it's solenoid faces forward and interferes with where the MPI has the rad bracket on the subframe. You won't need an updated starter motor unless you're running a high compression ratio really.

To be honest, it is part of a longer term plan.

I like the idea of having a reduced current draw. But I'm also thinking of a few engine tweaks too.

Even with tweaks you don't need it. Unless youre raising the comp ratio to a race level it ll be unneeded.

My standard starter copes with a C.R. of just over 11:1 with no problems.

More vendors trying to sell us another unnecessary item to go with all the other unnecessary stuff like 4-pot vented brakes, coil spring suspension, rear anti-roll bars, quick-shift gear levers, roll-cages for road cars, rear disc brakes. The list goes on. Still, they must make profits and you know how you really do need all this stuff ;D .
