Hi All,

I am currently taking on a clubman rebuild down here in Christchurch New Zealand. This is my first ever project so don't really have much experience and I'm finding out a lot along the way. I am not a traditionalist so this will not be a restoration job but rather a comfortable daily driver that one day my 2 boys will be able to learn to drive in (one is 3 years and the other 1 month old so I have a bit of time up my sleeve!). I would also like to do the odd track day  :D  :D.

So far I have taken the most things out of the car in preparation for sandblasting and only found two areas of concern which is the drivers and passengers floors. At this stage I am planning to paint it Blazing Red with a midnight black roof (from the new clubman range).

I would very much love and appreciate any handy tips or suggestions that anyone has to offer. I will endeavor to update as much as possible.

Looks like a really clean clubman. Good luck with the restoration/rebuild :)

The drivers and passengers floors which need fixing up. The birds nest in the 2nd picture fell out of the roof lining when I removed it... not sure how it got in there...

That shell is really clean and straight considering how old the car is. The front catch panel looks a little bent in the photos... maybe the car was previously in a front end collision?

Even the front floors don't look too bad, obviously sand blasting will reveal how bad the metal actually is.

The passengers side front floor has a very small rust hole but where the car has been jacked up previously it has bent and there is now a lump on both sides. Considering how straight everything else is I would say the previous owners (who had made a lot of home made "improvements" with particleboard) were a little bit careless with where they distributed their body weight while leaning on the car...

So 2 years later after building a new house I finally have the mini back to bare metal to see what the real damage is... not nearly as bad as some of the minis on here...

I did have a bloke come round to weld in the floor pans for me and asked him to cut out some rust in the process but he made an absolute hash of the left hand side so I will probably will end up having a go of it myself.

I have been given the word from the boss that it has to be done by Nov 20th in time for the big 3 0 so time to pull finger I think!
