Hi,I want to redo my engine bay, from the current green 2k that I brushed on over primer,to a neutral black say. I am having the car painted and unsure on car colour yet,and want to sort the bay before the car goes in for a respray.
I was thinking of using por 15 topcoat,or even there chassis paint(both brush applied),but do I need all of por 15 degreaser/thinner etc,? As this just makes it more expense.
Thanks

Not sure POR15 would be best for overcoating 2K at all. It's really not good at adhering to existing paint even when it's well prepped. If it were me I'd de grease the engine bay, key prep it and spray on epoxy primer before a decent few coats of topcoat.

Did this on mine early last year and its been fine since.

Only thing is,I need to brush it on and wanted a finish without brush marks really like the por 15 does by self levelling. Cheers

Hi,

I'd de-grease, prep and flat. Then go to your local car paint place and get them to mix you up a couple of large black aerosols, not off the shelf stuff.

Spray them on, job done  :proud:

Cheers  :proud:

The POR is very fussy about surface prep and needs to be really clean, especially the normal base coat one. POR15 works best on rough bare metal that’s been well prepped.

Rattle cans would probably be your best bet. A few decent primer layers with etch or zinc, a build up primer layer and then a couple of your choice colour coats and some clear coat.

Surface prep for each layer is the really key thing.

if you are having the rest of the car resprayed, havent you thought of getting the bay done at the same time? it will look so much better than brush-applied paint, and wont cost a fortune to do a mini bay.
