Finally got the bonnet painted! The color match isn't perfect bit I can live with it. Turns out there are actually 4 types of Rover MNX platinum silver. We choose is the closest one.

Refitted the bonnet and it really is a pig to line it up. It wasn't great when i had it fitted before, but i think  it is a little worse now. just doesn't seem long enough and etc curve at the front doesn't seem deep enough. I mucked around with it for 2 hours, adjusting the hinges and only slightly improved it. It ain't great but well, it is what it is.

A bit of an update on the bonnet hole and cover panel also. I cut two holes in the front of the bonnet and had a panel made up by arc angels to match the contours of the bonnet, the i sea is I can use the panel in bad weather to keep all the muck out.

I will add a thin rubber edge trim/seal on the holes. Which will cover up any unevenness (in my cutting and the changing thickness of the fibre glass).

The panel is held on with two quarter turn "Camloc" fasteners. Really nice little things. The panel itself I think I will leave without a rubber edge trim.

A quick test drive and the the combo of the new throttle cable set up and the improved air flow, really felt like it made a big difference.

Looks a bit like a BMW kindney grille, but on a tiny scale (and on the bonnet of course). Neat.

Just stick the Mini or Cooper Winged emblem on the panel and job done! :highfive:

After much confusion on exactly what was on offer in terms of exhausts and the mine field that is the diameter of the system.

Many suppliers don't mention the diameter, if they do they don't specify which par of the system. Some suppliers are simple clueless even when you speak to them on the phone.

In the end I found that Fletcher did a 2" system which also include a 2" CAT back link pipe. Info again was a bit unclear in many places.

I called P&L minis, A company I have never used before. The lady I spoke to pulled the system of the shelf and measured the various parts while I was on the phone. Good customer service.

I bought:

CAT to rear box linkk pipe 2" OD

Inlet pipe to silencer 2" OD

Tail pipe 2.5" OD - that part is a little larger than I wanted but it is only the tail section.

What sold it was the larger diameter CAT to silencer link pipe, which no one else seemed to offer.

I later called back and ordered a 2" pipe which runs from the specialist components LCB to the CAT - this hasn't arrived yet but I fitted the rest of the system this evening.

The fletcher exhaust seems great quality and went together really easily. Much deeper sound -

I was standing 2 metres behind the car and I thought something was in my hair, took me a second to realize that it was the exhaust blowing.

And a little viaduct / tunnel blast - ¨

Not any noticeable difference in power, but feels more responsive, which I guess is power related?!?

Not sure if I will bother fitting the 2" LCB to CAT link pipe

hi craig,

I mentioned a little while back i was in the process of the same build, well its also done and up and running.....sort of....

had an issue with the gears and clutch, i think its turned out to be oil of all things. I was running 10-40 semi synthetic off recommendation by SC as thats the oil of choice for the cams, however the gearbox was not happy, and once a little warmth was in the engine, selecting gears became near impossible.

ive opted to try 15-50 mineral, not quite the full 20-50 as that is potentially too thick for the cams, and gear selection seems to be much better almost immediately.

I was wondering which oil you were using in yours.

Also im running the same exhaust system as you, 2" fletcher straight through, mines a 1988 so no cat anyway.

ive got a few little touches left, bonnet hinge supports need fitting, so the bonnet stays up.

and the map was totally out on the ecu, so that needs a little more fine tuning, its running a little lean on low revs, and quite rich on higher revs so a little bit smokey at the moment.

how are you finding driving it? plenty of power?

Hi Dom,

I am actually running 20 - 50, I never even considered anything else. But now you mention it, i will look into it. However, I haven't had any issues with 20-50.

it has enough power, it is a bit tricky to get traction in first and second on anything more than 3/4 throttle. But i am using 10x6 wheels.

I actually felt a noticeable difference when I cut a hole in the bonnet. the foam filters i am using were almost touching the inside.

I have a map (from my rolling road session) if that will help you out?

Craig,

a bit of info for you. I was chatting with ITG as I am going to make a shroud for my carb as when I get to about 100mph I get a screen covered with fuel and they recommend about 2" from trumpet top to filter top.

you can see how the holes helped.

Yip the guy at the rolling road told me that there wasn't enough room. At the moment I have around 1.25 inches gap between the end of the trumpet and the filter. I have room for a longer filter.

For some reason it deleted my reply and just posted a photo.

I'm also running 10x6 yoke a032r tyres and found it spins a lot in first. Also torque steers.

The gearbox seems a lot better now it's on mineral 15-50 oil and I had the clutch arm changed as it was pretty worn. That's helped loads.

Just a rolling road and re map to go now.
