I guess this was the issue with the broken pulley. The half circle key wasn't sitting correctly. It was also seized like that. I remember it being like that when I first fitted the pulley. I didnt know that the key was a separate part, so I just assumed that is how it should be. Didnt actually think much about it.

and it would not have allowed the pulley to sit tight against the cam.

easy fix with a light tapping stick.

At least you've found the cause and learned a useful tip. So, are you now putting it back together?

I have now tapped it straight.

Happy to FINALLY found the issue.

Oil cooler fitted and braided pipes made. Quite satisfying to start with a bit of angle, a handful of unions and a meter of breaded hose. Happy with the end result. It is small but I am hoping it drops the tempo just that little bit.

Currently I have the mini housed in a fairly boring garage. I have for a while been thinking about how to make it a bit more fitting for the mini.

I love these retro petrol garage sheds that people make. I am gonna give myself a budget on this, so I won't be buying genuine signs etc. The replicas will suit me fine and I may even have a go at making some myself.

I will also do the inside.

First thing I will do is build a large deck outside the garage. I think it will help bring the garage back in time and give a nice clean look. It will also be nice to work on the mini and the daily on the deck (instead of the gravel drive).

I think I will also start with painting the door MOWOG green

It will be a slowish project but this is how it stands.

New pulley arrived, looks a little different from the old one. Dimensions seem almost the same. the replacement is a little fatter. I wonder if this is a new design?

Only thing . the retaining ring seems to pop-off easily (finger pressure). Issue?

I know it would be another delay but I'd speak to John before you go ahead.

how many teeth? same?

to be honest it is only to drive the oil pump so will make little difference.

 Yip both 38.

The toothed section on the new part is 2mm thicker than on the new part. The belt sat right up against the the keeper ring on the old pulley.

I know it is only for the pool pump, but the ring ensures the belt doesn't come off?

yeah, the ring dosent actually do a lot but shouldnt come off easy, personally I would put the ring back on with some bearing fit and stake it in a few places.

teeth number is important, or rather can be if you happen to have used an old cam with a bit of lift, cause the lobes will munch bits out of the con rods... aske me how I know... yep had a belt go on a push rod engine, bent all the valves and killed the cam and rods...

Craig, for retro signs try The Village Signwriter on Facebook.  He does some good stuff.

I came across his page just last week! they do look great. I have a couple of ideas to make my own - turn it into some kind of winter project.
