Hello,

I did a search and it turned up nothing but I've been wondering recently if anyone has put the 1l ecoboost turbo engine in their mini?

It's turbo'd, 90-123 HP in stock form and near 60mpg it seems like an ideal candidate for swapping into the mini as provided it's positioned correctly it should be as awkwardly heavy as a vtech or have the problems associated with bike engined cars. I like to think I could perform the conversion but I'm pretty sure insurance costs would prohib me from doing it for a few years, might phone around anyway.

would love to hear people's opinions on a mini powered by one of these.

the search on the forum isn't great, sadly it's better to Google mini forum and what you want as its more reliable.

I have a fiesta ecoboost 125ps, fantastic engine with tons of grunt especially for a 1L 5dr car. I'd love to put it in my clubman. I often wonder if my wife would notice if I swap it for my A series!

Not a great idea unless you upgrade the recall parts

As much as I hate ford after working there, they're great engines. In something as light as a mini they should be awesome.

It's an old problem .. and not really something you would probably migrate over to a conversion

Ford says that 44,682 Ford cars with the three-cylinder turbocharged 1.0-litre engine produced between October 2011 and October 2013 were fitted with a nylon coolant pipe between the engine and coolant tank that had the potential to fail at high temperatures.

A Field Service Action was issued in March 2015 to replace the hoses, and 96% of cars were repaired. According to Ford, the issue was not treated as a safety recall by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency because a dash warning light should come on if the car starts to overheat, giving drivers advance warning that there is a problem.

My son has a 2106 model (Fiesta) .. for a 3 cylinder engine it's got some "poke" .. small turbo with an intercooler .. which if you floor it spools up really quickly. 100ps would make a Mini fly .. with the light body it may need some nice rubber to transfer the power to the road without the smell of burning rubber!

PS Next time he's over I'll check that hose but my guess is it was upgraded on the newer models.

There is a company in California that is doing this conversion on Minis - Gildred Racing - the biggest issue is the ECU. A stand alone ECU is available thru Ford racing for this engine, but only for the manual transmission, and it's about $1500 plus the bespoke harness for another $250. Spendy.
