Why is it when I send a letter to the Dvla after 8 weeks it has disappeared ? But when I send a letter anywhere else in the world it always gets there !

I bet all thier fines / penalty letters get delivered

So now i have to cancel the first cheque and fill in the forms again and wait another 6/8 weeks ( recorded post this time for what it's worth )
Bring back the local offices ! We had one around a mile away with a human to talk to face to face , I used them for years and never had a issue

Recorded doesnt always seem to work either, i've had one which they've signed for then claimed they didnt. Royal Mail had to get involved and gave them GPS proof it was signed for at their offices. Useless buggers.

Just like to add to this.... The PO offers a Guaranteed next day delivery, costs something around £7.50. I used this service and it took them 4 days to deliver the envelope. I queried this and apparently it is NOT guaranteed next day delivery!! What they do however guarantee is to give your money back if they are at fault. I have had to wait 30 days to receive a cheque, and I will not even start to tell you on all the hoops and form filling you have to go through. Trading standards agree it is misleading to suggest this but nothing is done by them to get the PO to change the wording.

Thats just Special Delivery which is guaranteed next day and rarely ever fails. A friend owns a couple of post offices and i used to be a postie, if it doesnt get there next day there is a paddling for anyone along the chain and with them now using PDA's its easy and quick to prove if it failed to get there.

No the v5 is a paper document
A record is a black round vinyl disc for playing music from ;)
(you did do well )

I was thinking we need a member that lives close to the dvla that will hand deliver all our corespondents and get signatures for us

We bought a car (non mini) on December 30th, v5 finally arrived today!

Crap service but given their cuts perhaps understandable.

Yes very easy to prove it did not get there by logging onto the PO web site and look at the tracking details, that unfortunately is not the method the PO uses to determine a claim, you have to offer a copy of the purchase receipt, fill out one of their forms in detail. No receipt no claim!

I had a court summons from the dvla for driving a untaxed vehicle I no longer owned. I turned up to court with the change of ownership letter from the dvla themself dates 6 months prior to prove my innocence.

That's how organized they are, what a waste of my time, and the courts time.

Not even an apology.

Surely you can see the sense in asking for proof of something in order to prove a claim? It's like saying you won the lottery but not having the ticket to prove and just saying "well i typed my numbers on your site and it says i've won £10million".

The V5C came today .......sort of ..........I Applied for a pre 1957 Lambretta
Sent them all the forms they asked for including photos of the original number plate , frame number, engine number. Cover letters.....and so on .....
The original number got transferred so I expected to get a age related number Pre 57

I got a 1983 Lambretta instead ?????????

So now I have to get proof of its age via a dating letter from the Lambretta club of Great Britain and try again ....
The first thing I asked them months ago was would I need to do this and they said no need they could do it from all the other details I gave them .
Why is it every time you ring or write you get a different answer ??????
Bring back local offices !!!

Mistakes by the DVLA: This could easily turn into the longest topic on the forum!

Over six months they returned my V5 three times unaltered, with no explanation after sending it off for a change of engine number. Including pictures of the reg plates, VIN numbers and engine numbers of the two cars, (my car and engine donor car). Then they asked for a letter from the car manufacturers dealer, confirming the change of engine. As Austin dealers are a bit thin on the ground round here it cost me £25 for a Rover specialist to confirm the engine number and VIN. The school leaver dealing with my application sent me her email address. But never answered any of the emails that I sent her.

Then one day it popped through the letter box, just before the tax was due.

Oh boy, I've had some real DIng Dong arguments with DVLA. Try registering a Jap Import for the first time. First off, they won't recognize ROVER on the V55/5. It comes back...Manufacturer..MINI...model...Cooper.
I've tried to tell them that BMW made them under the ROVER Group name up until Oct 2000. Might as well talk to a Chimpanzee.
They refer me to BMW at Farnborough, who then suggest that YES, it is a BMW Vin Number, even though it is a 1993 CAR. THEY fob me off to MGR, who own the rights to issue Certificates of Conformity, cost £150.
Well you know where they can shove that crap.
The crazy thing is, I've registered 3 Rover Minis in the last year, 2 came back as MINI, one is a 1998 and it came back ROVER.
I don't want any part of BMW group on my V5C, but it looks like I'm stuck with it. Gggrrrrr!!!!
What really pisses me off about DVLA is the urgency to send your Application back, without REALLY taking the time to read it.
I had an instance last November where I needed a V5C back URGENTLY as I was taking it to the States to use as my daily runabout.
DVLA sent it back saying the original date of Registration in Japan wasn't stated, even though it was there on the Export Certificate in Black and White. Where do they recruit these numbskulls?
I swapped an engine from an MG Metro into a Mini, and boy do DVLA make you jump through Hoops to convince them it's a genuine older engine from a car that was consigned to the Scrappy many years before. Had to get a Bonafide recognized Mini Repair Garage to state on their Headed Paper that the engine was in their opinion, after inspecting it, as stated on application.
I'm away now to lay down in a dark corner until my blood pressure returns to normal. Bring back the Local DVLA offices!!!!
