I see in this months Practical Classics that DVLA are making errors on V5C's due the computer not finding a code for manufacturers no longer in production. Furthermore they say that they are unable to correct any V5C's that have this error, so good luck to anyone trying to sell a car with a V5C showing a complete fictitious and unknown make and model.

Is the UK fast becoming a third world country?

DVLA really are a joke!

You're obviously making a run for it, to sunnier climes. Lucky s*d.

I take this back as the v5c came today and now all the details are correct except the year it's still 1983? in stead of 1954 !!!!
So why ask for the dating certificate which I sent stating 1954 then don't bother to change the v5c ???????? No one can tell me where 1983 has come from ?????

I'm going to guess that it was first registered in the UK in 1983, the v5 says date of registration, not date of manufacture doesn't it? I had a 1998 Eunos roadster that was a 1990 MX5 to the man in the street, 98 was the year of import.

It's a uk spec scooter which had a uk reg in 1954 and at some time the original reg was transfered by the dvla. I had to provide them with the original reg number which i could as the plates are still on the scooter and the original number is still out there on a car / bike .I also sent them a dating letter from the Lambretta club of Great Britian confirming 1954 as date of manufacture !
So I can't see what the problem is !
The thing is to give a vehicle a newer date of manufacture is illegal !
Plus 1959 is no tax no mot
1983 isn't !

They have finally sorted it ! :)
To say I am glad would be a under statement !!!
I must say doing it by email and dealing with the same person over and over again in one way made it easier at least you don't have to explain it over and over to new people .
But I am not sure if the problems are with the dvla itself or the individual processing it ?
Since the local office has closed it has become much harder to deal with them .
