Hello all , after 26 years of not having a Mini I have entered full mid life crisis mode and bought a 1973 roundnose, ( i had three Clubman fronted ones in a row as my first three cars ) this one is a birthday present for my daughter who is eighteen in August.

It has rear drums and 8.4 discs up front and the brakes are crap, I can lock up all four wheels, but this needs quite a lot of pedal pressure. I have stripped and relined, readjusted the drums so far , I am considering fitting a servo . Question is which one ?
It looks like there is an inline one available from minispares which seems to sit on a bracket on the inner wing, does anyone have experience of these? Or should I go for the cooper s one?

Ps my daily driver is a Volvo V70 T5 , I dont expect the mini to stop like it does, but they seem a lot more crap than I remember.

Any info or advice appreciated, this looks like a good forum.

Yes I have the remote servo which bolts to the inner wing on my 1980 1330 and its setup on the front brake circuit just like the Innocenti had it and it made a world of difference.

here is the circuit as per the innocenti and also shows mine fitted

Thanks for the pics , that looks pretty neat. I see you are in Kernow, I regularly spend a few weeks in Porthleven in the summertime, Cornwall is beeyootiful, its like Scotland without the rain.

Mine has a single line brake system . the brake master cylinder looks exactly like the clutch cylinder, presumably I can plumb the servo to operate all four brakes. .?
Or should I go for servo operating the fronts only.

Fronts only the pressure reducing valve will limit the pressure going to the rears to prevent locking up.

Thanks again Mate, I think this sounds like the best plan, I amgoing to swap the flexi hoses for braided ones at the same time I seem to recall that this helped with my last 1275 gt.

This thread has been most helpful, as I wish to improve my minis brakes with a servo as well.

Its interesting to read that only the front brakes benefit from servo assistance.

Thanks guys
