Morning,

I am repainting the front of my mini at the moment, and have a quick question about mirrors....

I quite like the idea of having my mirrors on the wings rather than the doors.  If I was to get myself some wing mirrors, and get rid of the door mirrors, would I have any problems when it comes to MOT time (I have a '95 SPi)?

Would you recommend the change?  I'd imagine I would notice a fair change in visibility, but would it still be good enough?

Legal but up to you if you want them or not.  Try taping them onto the wings andsee what you think.  Its got to be the right car in my opinion...looks naff on most.

It's the main issue I have looking at most of the Japanese import minis, they look a little odd to me!

My grandad swore by wing mirrors, much preferred them to door mounted ones, not tried them myself

I'd check the regs, I've a feeling they were outlawed as hazard to any pedestrians you knock down. It will depend on the age of your car if so.

Like many such things, the chances of someone knowing and pulling you for it are slim, unless you  test the purpose of the regulation that is.

Thanks guys.

I've had my glamorous assistant holding mirrors on the wings as a test, and think I'll just stay with them on the doors.  I still like the look, but no the most practical!

You legally only need an external mirror on the driver's side and the rectangular ones which screw onto the A-pillar seam are super. No holes to generate rust, small area so less drag and they look really good as well - real 1960's retro look.
