What Powder Coating Colour Is Closest To Old English White ?

Best Answer chris1965mk1 , 23 May 2016 - 05:00 PM

Update - I had my 2 wheels done in a colour that looked similar to the 2 i was matching however they came out a million shades apart  :goaway: .

I decided upon another colour in the end and just had all 4 wheels done the same so they matched 100% and picked them up today  :D

I am happy to report they look awesome and the powder paint code used was 9001 GLOSS HMG

I can post pictures if anyone needs me to  ;D problem solved !

Seems to be one problem after another  :ohno:

I took my reverse rims to my local powder coating company today and asked for Old English White - which obviously they had no idea what i was talking about .

I recently purchased 2 already refurbished wheels that had been powder coated in what the chap said was Old English (creamy white) so i took 1 down as a match however there were 3 or 4 colours that were close but none looked a perfect match  :mmkay:

They said if i can find out the Ral colour or the powder coat equivalent code then they could buy it in or match from that and if need be to give my already done ones a coat of the same so they match (more £££`s).

I am concerned that the colour be correct as my plan is to have the roof sprayed to match once the restoration is complete.

I have searched the forums for someone giving the right code for the powder coat version of Old English White but with no success ??

It seems to be a very popular question that pops up but with no answers .

Once again i am asking the experts for advise as i am expecting a call any second to ask me for a colour choice  >_<  No pressure LOL  :gimme:

Could always get them painted in the same OEW  as the roof?

Wheels were never actually OEW - it was simply cream colour Dunlop used which was actually darker than OEW.

Apparently BS367 "Manilla" is very close.

Personally I would never bother to have wheels powder coated. I would generally media blast followed by 2k epoxy primer, give them a good rub down, maybe another prime followed by 2k OEW and you know you have a product that you are 100% satisfied in.

If I did not have access to a spray shop I would get them blasted and 2K epoxy primed then finish of with a synthetic OEW myself so as not to die of 2K poisoning.

I dabble in classic british bikes, Minis and Moggys and every time I get anything that has been powder coated its always a disappointment due to evidence of rust pitting always being seen. wheels, bike frames, swing arms you name it they always let the finished product down.

Add to that any kerbing damage or any hairline cracks in the powder coat it rots like hell underneath and throws the coating off eventually but with paint you can touch them up.

Just look at landrover bumpers, they come off in sheets.

Good point however i already have 2 of them in a powder coat finish that i was hoping to match but without the original code of the powder coating used its just a guessing game.

I paid good money for the 2 already done so i don`t really want to get them stripped however if i cant get a colour that will match the roof when the cars ready for painting i`m stuffed (i really want a perfect colour match).

Should of just painted them up in the first place  :goaway:

If you put them on the same side as the car would anyone ever know of a different shade?
