Hello everybody,
Greetings from Portugal. Unfortunately I am not a Mini owner yet....but I am starting to study every possibility.... I will go to Germany this summer to buy a Mini, year between 2012 and 2013, low mileage....and I would like to know if there is any common issues on these engines (1.6 petrol 98PS and 1.6 diesel 90PS)..... i've heard about some issues on the petrol engines, but to be honest, I am very tempted to go on this petrol version... unless it really has serious issues when compared to the diesel version.

I can find very good prices on the petrol version, on very well equiped One's, with navigation, parking sensors.... but again.... I am starting on this world... any advice would be welcome....

Thanks in advance and sorry for any mistake....

You'll probably get an informed answer on a 'new' MINI forum e.g. Mini2, as this forum is for the classic 1959-2000 Mini. Most people here would probably tell you to buy a classic car not the new model!

This Mini forum is for classic Minis so would be better to try a New MINI forum like Total MINI for more replies and advice:-

Good luck in finding your MINI they are great cars to drive. I have an early 2002 R50! :mrcool:

I would avoid buying a mini one petrol or diesel. Both are very under powered for the weight of the car.
Go for a cooper petrol or cooper diesel instead. The petrol mini one and petrol Mini Cooper share the same engine, the ECU is programmed to produce less power on a mini one

The Bluefin chip remap/upgrade to an R50 MINI One gives 33bhp more power, slightly more than a standard R50 Cooper:-

Also some Mini Ones have a 1.4 engine too so definitely not shared with the Cooper in those ones.

I think the R50 mini One diesel was Toyota Yaris 1.4 engine. And it was terrible. I don't think the R56 (2012 to 2013) used a 1.4 in either the petrol diesel versions... But I could be wrong

The trouble with MINIs is the overlap between models and ages isnt it? The cabrio stayed old after the R56 came out, The Clubman stayed unchanged after the F56 (?) came out, turbo and supercharged cars overlap too.

All very confusing.

Yep defo an R56 with the 1.4 prince petrol engine but 2007-2010 according to wiki for the BMW Prince engines. I think I looked at an 11 reg 1.4 Clubman One before buying the Cooper instead.

Yes there was an overlap. It allows them to sell a particular model until the replacement is ready. BMW operates a 7 year life cycle with their cars. The cabrio launched in 2002 which is about 18month to 2 years after the R50 came out so will always be slightly behind the 3 door hatch terms of model life.... Plus the cabrio is now made in Holland (and so are some of the 3 door F56) so they needed time to introduce and setup production there first.
