Thinking of buying one of these kits myself, just wondering if you've got it on full power yet and what it's like if you have?

How do you find the 2.7 Final drive?
Good for Highway cruzing?
Whats revs are you pulling at 60mph?
Cheers

After a bit of a break I've finally got round to completing the 1000miles running in and getting Eric up to Vmaxscart for the final tune up.....

The engine has been performing well throughout running in, it pulls well and is very smooth, so I had no reason to be nervous but still when the big day came the nerves did set in........ (I think I've watch too many vids on youtube of cars blowing up).

But....

I'm please to report that the session went very well, I asked Stuart not to push it too hard and we agreed that although I could jet the Webber for more top end I am more interested in low end pull.

The final figures for the day came out as 119BHP with 134lb ft torque @ 5krpm  :proud:  .

Stuart advised that at 6krpm I would have a higher figure but I'm happy with what I have.

For a first engine build I'm more than over the moon, and needless to say my drive home was A LOT of fun :gimme: .

Next up ....... Suspension / handling needs looking at.

Hi Chris,

The 2.7 seems fine no issues off the line and its ok on the motorway (as ok as a mini can be :) )

Not sure what the revs are, Ill go for a run and let you know.

Hi Baxter,

My only advice DO IT !!!!!!! NOW!

An amazing bit of kit and Stuart @ Vmaxscart is a top guy to deal with. The engine pulls so well, its always on power, no mater what speed you are doing it just keeps pulling and the sound is amazing!!!

Went with a 2.9:1 FD, sent to me by Chris (Moke Spider), bloody nice guy he is.
Did you get the charge cooler kit from Stuart as well? I did, but I'm also considering adding the water injection idea, everyone keeps banging on about it and the kits seem well priced from the states.

Hi Chris,

Been out for a run and got some rpm's for you (I was taking my speed for a GPS app on my phone so hard to know if speeds are exact):

30mph in 3rd gear = 2.1krpm

50mph in 3rd gear = 3.5krpm

50mph in 4th gear = 2.5krpm

60mph in 4th gear = 3krpm

70mph in 4th gear = 3.5krpm

My mini is a noisy one but 60 mph is a "comfortable" cruise.

hope that helps

Excellent to hear you have gone ahead with the SC :proud:.

I now what you mean about drooling over it i spent my an entire evening in the garage just looking at mine when it arrived. Yours looks great in black.

To date I've not added any of the additional systems such as charge cooling, I wanted to see how I get on with the basic and will then look to add more later if I want. So far its all been very goooood.

I'm looking forward to seeing how you get on.

Thanks Steve,

Ill be honest I got lost in a rabbit hole regarding running in procedures I think I read 15+ different views on this forum alone!!

In the end I just followed the advice Stuart at Vmaxscart gave me (and as painful as it was I DID stick to rev limits):

Advice I was given:

- Max revs during run in 3000krpm

- Never hold constant revs keep blipping up and down.

Procedure I followed:

- Fill engine with Halfords classic oil (the Green tin can stuff)

- Run for 100 miles

- Full oil change (and filter) re fill with more Halfords classic.

- Run for 500 miles

- Another full change

(towards the 1000 mile mark I did start to use up to 4krpm)

- At 1000 miles I've just been on rolling road for final tune up and power runs so am now "run in".

- I will now do a full oil & filter change but this time will use Millers Synthetic 20/50 (minispares sell it).

I like that torque figure.
