Hi there,

I'm preparing my mini for (Dutch) DVLA to get a number plate.

I planned to check the valve tolerance prior to the MOT but realized the frame runs just above the cilinder head cover.

Do I need to lower / remove the whole engine to check the valve clearance??

I bought it as a finished build with just a bit of fine tuning needed.

So if anyone knows tips / tricks to check the valves without removing the engine please let me know.

Koen.

Hello Koen

If i under stand your question, first to get to your cylinder head, if you have a shroud/ firewall in place just remove this. you will need to remove your chairs. to gain excess to engine. With all this removed you should be able to gain entry to the engine. You can work on the head without removing from the frame. if you need to. but there are 3 models of frame. So on mine {2} I can work on it.But It would help people if you posted a picture.

Do you know that the valves are out?

I also have the #2 frame I think. It's not the road frame, but the race frame with crossed bars at the doors.

I have had a look at the firewall and part of it is easily removable.

However, I'm not sure if the engine top cover can be lifted high enough to be removed.

Nothing like mine. I have my engine well back then that. Cross bar is not they're. Have you removed the 2 engine brace bars that cradle the Engine.? As it's so far forward.
