Mounting Engine On A Stand

To paint an engine it is sometimes easier just to put it on a bench as unless you mount it like the above picture the stand will end up in the way of your paintbrush or spray gun.
When you are building the engine up though - that is a different kettle of fish. The above photo wouldn't be ideal as the stand will be in the way of the timing gear and make it very difficult to get everything timed and fitted......for building it up fit a stand as mentioned by Swift_General suggests.
I found knocking up a custom plate helps mount to a stand and does away with the 'universal' arms and bolts.

I had a badly painted old door as my workbench at the time so using that wouldn't have been a great option. Love my engine stand!
