Thanks, can't wait til I get some tyres and fit them finally. Deciding whether to spend an extra 20 quid on tyres and get a008's rather than just the cheapest falkens.

I've heard great things about the A008s and their grip in all weather conditions. Surely the extra 20 bucks is worth it.

I probably will end up getting them as I have cheapish tyres at the moment and I can't stand them. I'll be more gentle on the throttle and make up the money in fuel savings.

Haven't updated this for a while and a fair amount has happened. I went ahead and bought a set of A008s for the wellers and had them fitted. I was really pleased with the grip and in my opinion they are well worth spending a little more for. I drove the mini daily to work for about 2 months until last week when I decided there was too much salt on the road (and the wheel bearing went). Also with the extra poke the car now gets really dirty really quickly.

This was after just over a week of driving

I also picked up the Christmas tree on the roof which I've tried to do for a couple of years but it's never been on the road over Chirstmas.

I then spent more money than I should have done on this lot.

Plan is to turbo the 998, I'm a complete noob so it will take ages and I'm sure lots of mistakes will be made but I'm in no rush. It's a t2 from a Renault 5 GT turbo on a mirage manifold, MG Metro camshaft, Metro turbo carb, MG Metro Inlet manifold and a downpipe.

So this weekend I made the first step, hired an engine crane and removed the old, leaky 998. The engine burnt enough oil to where forever topping it up was annoying so although I'd originally planned to keep it on the road til May I got inpatient and pulled it out. Took much less time than I expected and the most difficult part (embarrassingly) was removing the heater air pipe from the inner wing. I had toyed with the idea of trying to lug the engine out by hand but for £10 a day the crane was a no brainer.

So as I say don't expect this to be done quickly  :D

Looking good mate, I'm quite jealous of the turbo gear :mrcool: Do you know what sort of power it will be pushing when done?

My aim is around 100 bhp, not extremely fussed about power output (yet) but just want a car that runs well and has a bit of poke.

That turbo setup should make a nice difference to your car and the poke with the 165 tyres is neat :)

Yeah I like the poke but debating slightly wider arches such as group 2 narrows as with the roads dirty it was getting annoying, although then again I personally think it looks good enough to outweigh the dirt. I'm confident about it getting turbo'd but I wouldn't hold your breathe as I'll always be running out of funds and talent

What's the plans with the engine? Are you just strapping the turbo to it?

The plan at the moment is to strip it, asses wear and do any necessary work. Of course replace rings and bearings. My current plan is to stick with flat top pistons and lower the CR with a 12G295 but I'm not sure if I'll use these pistons or buy new ones. Standard bottom end other than an MG metro NA cam and a centre oil pick up unless I've missed something stupid. So basically get the engine into good condition before boosting it as I don't think it would last long without some work.
