This was somewhere else in the forum but thought i should move it to the correct place

Here is my project, mazda mx5 mk1 engine powered mini 1000 (1.6 litre dohc engine ,roughly 110 bhp at the rear wheels, and an lsd, hopefully just under 700kg )

bought this about a year ago, truing to get it though an mot, but has to much rust, thought i got it all, so as i would have to fix that thought i ought to change it up just a little bit more,

post-105562-0-03990700-1467114105_thumb.

Then bought a classic mini shell, bit of rust on that too !! love that shame of these car so no panel changes at all.

next started to strip down the mx5

sadly all the photos of this are too big to be uploaded  :(

These may be of interest if you haven't already seen them

Spaceframe RWD track mini

MX5 Estate

Neither of these have kept very much of the mini except the body shell.

If you wanted to keep the suspension and basic structure I imagine using one of the fwd gearboxes that attaches to the same motor.

It'll be interesting to see what you have in mind...

Thanks had seen diggers project, and enjoyed reading the space frame one, i have in mind using as the stock mazda parts so having it rear wheel drive, almost exactually as diggers has done his :)

onwards with stripping it down then, nearly all gone

dash board part all cut out

then the front part cut down

cut the sill and rear quarter, and the other one is done as well

and then cutting up the back bit just got to do the other side of it

Attached File  IMG_0282.JPG   68.02K   10 downloads

now the scary part, cutting it in half !!!

which ended up like this ......

Attached File  IMG_0294.JPG   33.01K   24 downloads

after shortening the wheels base by 25 cm and alining it, it now looks like this

Attached File  IMG_0302.JPG   67.96K   28 downloads

just need to cut the floor out with mini then place it on top, then more alining, then some welding :)

This is going to be a weapon. I have both cars, and they are equally fun to drive. Are you going to turbo the mx in the future. Maybe too much power
