MK1 hinges are mounted further towards the middle. You can see the original possition of these on every mini, thats what the two narrow, vertical recesses in the bulkhead, that serve no purpose were for.

MK1 bonnet will not fit a MK3 boddy without fitting the MK1 hinge brackets. Things will be in the way such as the tandem master cylinder and be pretty much a ball ache to do.

Could always fit bonnet pins and bin the hinges all together.

Would just be as easy to cut the lip of the MK3 bonnet

Blimey, I never gave this any thought. I have fitted a new unmolested MK1 bonnet to my MK3 and the hinge fittings on the bonnet were in the right place........

It is defenitely a MK1 bonnet that was new old stock from a local garage. Curious, I wonder if anyone made MK1 style bonnets for later cars??? I can't remember what make it was, possibly Hadrian.

Well dont forget that the one external difference between a MK1 bonnet and any other is the lip, which is only spot welded on ! if you want the MK1 look on a MK3 on car then just drill the spot welds out and remove the lip !

Mk2 just have to be different, they have the lip and the mk1 hing placement.... doh :D

So what are people saying? That the MK1 bonnet hinge locations are the same as MK3??

Some one is going to come unstuck at some point

I got my uncle to pick up a bonnet from a spares place in Birmingham and send it back with my folks. I think it is a Hadrian, and has no lip but has both sets of hinge positions. it needed a bit of work to fit it nicely but looks good with the Mk 1 "S" grille

Sproket is quite right as is GuessWorks. The Mk1 had hinges nearer the centre! I have a Mk1 in the garage and the bonnet would not fit a modern (mk3 onwards) mini due to the hinge location!

However, some "MK1" bonnets sold now are aftermarket ones which are basically the MK3 bonnet without the lip so you could be lucky and will not have any problems!
