i attended MG Live this year at silverstone and that event was huge in comparison, made both mini festivals look pathetic. much more effort is requires at brands hatch and oulton, there are so many mini clubs out there, need to get them involved.

I was there too, running a car in the European Lotus Cup. I didn't hang around to look at the show, but from what I saw it looked pretty good

This years BH Mini Festival was quite well supported but the south bank was empty (an extra £5 to park there!) I think some previous years had better attendance because anyone arriving in a Mini or MINI got the car and driver in for free..........this year everyone had to pay £25 on the gate whether arriving in a Mini or not.

Yeah this year was an improvement in numbers, but you're right, I definitely remember it being cheaper!

No Historics, disappointing line up..

I could be entirely wrong... but I wonder if it's anything to do with Swiftune being very local to Brands, and it being very accessible for the French competitors, and Oulton being a pain in the arse to get to. I live 5 miles from Swiftune, and it takes about 5 hours in a car to get to Oulton, so it must be about the same, or maybe an hour longer from the channel. And even longer still in a truck

the big issue with oulton from a competitor point of view is its all on one day ! and a bloody long way for most of us.

quali and 2 races all on the same day is bloody hard on the cars, last year it was very hot and they didn't cool down between sessions. our numbers drop massively. brands we had 32 mini sevens at oulton i would expect around 20

Yeh who would want to come to the north! Only half the BTCC grid turn up there!

Tell me about it!! we didn't have long between our races either, and we had some pretty significant damage on some of the cars. One thing we are quite good at is fixing a right mess in 2 hours and it finishing well inside the top 10!

I went, although the weather was poor I expected that would lead to a more exciting set of races.

Unfortunately with exception of the sevens and miglias (didn't see their last races though) most classes couldn't keep it on the black stuff, leading to red flags and safety cars - not very exiting to watch.

Only three trading stands was a bit of a let down, but I wasn't expecting much as it was a racing meet anyway.

I was also a bit confused why only nine miglias were present?

Couple of reasons I heard for the small mig grid was, one was on holiday, Colin peacock unfortunately rolled it at brands so car wasnt in a good way, Bill sollis sold his car and one car was at brands for a one off in the owens win a miglia drive comp. That still only adds 4 to the grid though

I thought our MINI Challenge sessions were bloody exciting to be honest! Making a last minute call to change to wets and start from the pit lane, then come through the whole pack to finish at the front not exciting enough for you? ;) How about the mixed qualifying session with some cars on full wets, some with slicks at the front and wets at the rear, and some on full slicks, and how they times tumbled through the session? We were 1-2-3 in Quali until the dying moments!

Okay, calm down ;)

As I said I didn't see all the races, my son got tired and we needed to get home.

I was looking forward to a mixed grid and a gamble on tyres due to the weather, you could see on the JCW grid walk drivers with different tyre choices. But unfortunately the first Mini Challenge race and also the JCW race was a write off due to first lap crashes spending the 20 minutes of the race either behind the safety car or red flagged.

In terms of qualifying, it's hard to keep track of when your sitting at one corner with the only way of knowing is a sketchy tannoy system ;) but it must have been exciting in the pits with the times coming down as the track dried out.

it was a bit of a manic day with the weather, 7 qualifying was a nightmare ! but the races went well.. missing migs were- aaron smith  - dan wheeler - colin peacock - bill Sollis - dave drew - paul thompson - mark sims - ian fraser - tristen knight - and kane astin didn't get to race due to mechanical issues.

In future it's always handy to get the live timing on your phone on the TSL website, it's how most people keep track of timing and positions in the pits and around the circuit
