Has anyone welded in a set of these before without using a spotwelder? It is the part with all the closing panels and the rear subframe strengthening plate. Should I plug weld it, seam weld it or a bit of both?

How do you get a good contact between the plate and the bottom of the boot pan, as it is not easy to clamp there, self tappers?

Cheers everyone!

With big thanks to v21ash for the clean photo of the parts.

I would plug weld them in. Just drill lots of 6-8mm holes through the boot floor where the contact points are, use clamps or self tappers to pull the panels close together and then plug weld them all up. You can add some seam welds to the edge of the closing panels underneath too if you fancy it.

Cheers

Ben

Plug welding as Ben said. That's all I do with mine.

As the guys have said, lots of plug welds, I did this recently, you can find the start of the process about half way down this page of my build thread if you want to have a look - http://www.theminifo...-sprite/page-15

I recently plug welded mine in, but I turned the shell onto its side for better access and seam-welded around some of the edges.

Cheers for that, everyone.  Puts my mind at rest. Does it matter if the plugwelds are through the boot or from beneath?

Nice project, alchall. It's like a ghost car... like you can see right through it.

Don't think it matters, I do from underneath because car is on spit and upside down.

All the ones I have done have been on a spit. So from underneath means the boot floor looks unmolested.
