Hi Ben,the mini has turned out great.I hope your going to do a build thread for the midget!

That makes two of us :D

Go on Ben you know you want to!

I shall do the best i can but i won't be doing much on the Midget myself as it's Colin's project. I shall probably do the door skins and other welding and just drop on and off it between jobs etc as i have JXCMiniGT's car to do.

Ill photograph the progress and post it up though.

Cheers

Ben

Loved reading all of this build thread. Love the colour combo, the work on the dash and all the little additions, like the number plate lights and interior led lights. Really cool build.

Fantastic build diary and a wonderful Mini to cherish. Workmanship is top quality.

I have one question, surely the open capped sills will let water and crud into the sills? I have just rebuilt my Mini but I used Minimail sills which are enclosed for this reason.
Going through a Ford will surely let water get inside them?

Thanks for the compliments.

The open or 'vented' sills as fitted to this car are the correct pressings for this car and all Mini's should and would have had this type of sill.

The idea of the openings are to vent the inner sills to stop moisture build up and with this design, any wet inside will be able to drain out.

Providing that the box section within is adequately protected, they are perfectly good.

The closed type sill or 'coversill' that you are talking about are not recommended as they reduce the strength in this sill box section and also trap moisture leading to premature rusting and once the rust sets in, it can do a lot of damage.

I have removed these sills many times in favour of the correct narrow type vented sill and have always had lots of repairs or often complete replacement of the inner sill due to excessive corrosion.

Take a look here to see what i mean http://www.theminifo...?hl= coversills

Cheers

Ben

The reputable mini places should stop selling oversills really. :(

As someone said to me, it's your car, you can do with it as you will and you are keeping another mini on the road

Definitely mine has been re-shelled once already and that current shell is very poorly to someone has taken most the thirty stuff out of it, got a few bits left, so in my book its better to just put another on the road that worry about the purists like you say its your car do as you wish...
