Evening all,

I have an MPI which is misbehaving....it will kangaroo between crawling speed and 3000 revs. Fine when accelerating, only when holding the revs it misbehaves.

Also cuts out when stopping for lights etc but you can bump start it if caught early enough.

I've got a few spares and have changed idle air control and Crank sensor with other used units. It's got a new throttle position sensor on it.

IACV seems to marginally improve the situation from one unit to another.

Serviced it with new plugs, leads, filters and oil today, no change.

Any thoughts? What would the symptoms of a bad cam sensor or IACV be?

Check out the wiring loom that runs across the bulkhead. It contains the wiring for lots of sensors. My mpi was having very random idling problems until i discovered damage to the loom behind the air box. The wiring for the TPS was damaged as the loom got pinched between the air box and the bulkhead

Also check the loom where it passes close to the clutch slave reservoir, It can chafe there too. Wouldn't hurt to check / clean the earth strap at the top steady.

Thanks. I'll have a look at the loom. Earth strap is good.

Minivanman8, did you ever solve this? I could not have worded my problems better that what you described. What was the result, did you get it to run better?
