Thought I'd start a thread about our latest toy

image_zpskqxgnmkh.jpeg

One owner 8000 miles from new and no rust !!

Bit of a time warp car as it had been sitting on a drive for 17 years 😳

It had been serviced and MOT'd every year until last year when it wouldn't start
Turned out to be the fuel pump which I replaced and it starts on the button

Needed a dam good clean

Before

image_zpsibioivhy.jpeg

After

image_zpsadixxyca.jpeg

image_zpsvicuml50.jpeg

image_zpsvgzxfp8c.jpeg

Needs a set of window rubbers and an MOT

No rusty arches or anything

image_zpsjiw1ryx4.jpeg

image_zpsl8tyxb75.jpeg

Wish my mini would have been in such good nick 😂

No idea what we're going to do with it at the moment just going to enjoy not having to do any welding 😆

It dose need the tail gate re painting as the sun has peeled the lacquer in a couple of places but apart from that everything works

Think we may take it to POL next year and maybe a couple of other shows but apart from that just going to enjoy it
Never thought I'd say that about a rover metro 😆

Did a bit more on it today

Cleaned up the headlining

image_zpsivh66gtj.jpeg

image_zpsuhus6wc7.jpeg

Then it was time to deal with the crusty windscreen seal
Started by peeling back the lip

image_zpsnjfpyzy3.jpeg

Less than 5 mins later it was out

image_zpslsi7v0fr.jpeg

image_zpsgo1gwxij.jpeg

No rust lurking

image_zpsmgeanc6i.jpeg

Fitted the new rubber with the aid of a bit of car soap and nylon spoon

image_zpskpsu51ja.jpeg

Had some string knocking about so I used that , not ideal as it snapped twice

image_zpsbykqqec3.jpeg

The last corner was a pig but got it sorted eventually ( harder than a mini screen ! )

image_zps6iu7wy1u.jpeg

image_zps9o2xfpq8.jpeg

image_zpsxpzp1sz6.jpeg

image_zpsufl8pwkh.jpeg

All done 😃
image_zpsnmgf1bkx.jpeg

Sorted out the head lamp to bonnet seal common on these

image_zpsacxezohd.jpeg

Dropped off the front bumper no nasty rot hiding

image_zps8fdemvay.jpeg

image_zpsknlmyzck.jpeg

image_zpscaa3vzfo.jpeg

Back together

May I ask where you got your new screen seals from ??

My lad has a 100 and all the window seals are shot - just wondering where I could get some new ones from.

Thanks in advance !!

Phil.

Did a bit more today

Removed the rear wheel arch carpets and injected wax into every nook and cranny I could get it into

I used bit-hamber dynax cavity wax as its top notch and I use it on my mini

image_zpsagmvlqze.jpeg

image_zpsvoszxa8l.jpeg

image_zpswbgwcwye.jpeg

image_zpshosv49gq.jpeg

image_zpstv0lnwis.jpeg

Found a couple of bits left over from the factory

image_zpsvz3krp4g.jpeg

Moved onto the front end

image_zps6wqr4ukq.jpeg

Went underneath and did every hole I could find

image_zpssic4i13f.jpeg

image_zpsk2nxez47.jpeg

Think I put enough in as it was dripping out of everywhere 😃

image_zps2ozqqsxb.jpeg

That done it was onto the wheel arches
Clear wax was used here

image_zps4io0n03m.jpeg

image_zpszgcxoi4a.jpeg

This bung is tucked up under the wheel arch we took it out and filled the cavity with wax

image_zpsvllrndey.jpeg

You can see the hole in this pic

image_zpskqfiovlr.jpeg

Did the rest of the underneath with clear wax

image_zpsfeupgzsh.jpeg

image_zpsl28qssrn.jpeg

The old girl should last a few more years now 😆

Quick update

Took her for an MOT today and she flew through
Don't often get a car this age do that
So now it's road legal after 17 years and will be being used by my lad while he dose a bit of work on his ZS

Give us a wave if you see it about

Cheers Mark

Must admit I have never really been a fan of Metros, but this is an awesome little gem.

Thanks buddy

Had a few over the years and to be honest I never thought I'd have another
Couldn't resist this and I liked the story behind it
It was so close to being scrapped !!

Glad we saved it
