Hi All,

Im trying to sort out the insurance for my sister on her first car. I would like a classic policy with agreed valuation for her. The issue im running up against is some insurance companies seem to say the driver being 20 is too young for classic policy, others are saying car must be 20 years plus. Last week I had some success with footman james who told me as its a mini they would be able to do classic policy even though its under 20 years old. My sister rang them today and was told the total opposite that she is too young to have classic policy and car is also to young?

Anyone been in this situation before and got any tips. It wasn’t this difficult a few years ago when I ensured my '73 1000 for the first time.

Thanks,

Olie

Also bear in mind that you do not get no claims discount with a classic policy, got my 2000 plate with diret line.

Tried adrian flux, I was with them years ago. They couldnt do classic policy but would do agreed value - quote was £2500 mind.

I have my no claims discount no problem with my classic policies with admiral I have 7 years protected on my '73 1000 now. Is your direct line policy a classic policy?

Very much doubt it, I tried to add my 81 city to my existing policy with direct line and they wouldn't insure it because the car was over 25 years old

I think the issue unfortunately is that this is your sister's first policy, rather than the car or its value. I can't see insurers allowing newly qualified drivers to use classic vehicle policies as a means of getting access to lower premiums, as there are so many restrictions to classic policies, even for lower risk drivers. Would be interesting to know whether anyone on the forum has been able to use a classic policy as a route to lower cost, first time insurance.

My first years insurance was with Adrian flux on a classic policy, I was 19 at the time but being an 84 mini it was old enough. But I ended up paying a lot less than I would have on a modern car and worked out pretty well for me, I also got no claims as well. But things may have changed since then as it was nearly 5 years ago.

About time the government started a NATIONAL VEHICLE  INSURANCE COMPANY and sorted all these rip off private insurance company scams.Especially when they automatically bang up the premiums on renewal.

We've got to have insurance by law, so the government should make a basic THIRD PARTY FIRE AND THEFT for all at decent rates.

SORRY RANT OVER :shades:
