Having tried to adjust the rear drum offside I found the little square nut was seazed and now I have chewed it. I have new shoes coming tomorrow and was wondering can I put the shoes on without having to touch adjuster and or should I just remove the drum? How difficult is it to remove the rear drum so I can try and loosen the adjuster I have added a pic and my last question is what is the purpose of the round centre bit on the hub in the middle as I have stupidly scratched and slightly dented trying to get the drum off without realising I had to release the handbrake lol oops many thanks

The bit in the centre is just a cover.

Heat and penetrating oil and some mole grips will loosen the adjuster

Weld a nut on it and unscrew it. And replace. You need to adjust it to get the drum off and the drum on.

Dust cover.

As Nick has said, you will need to move the adjuster and you'd be best off replacing it. If that is what you are going to do, don't weld a nut on it as then you won't be able to get it out, they screw in (as in towards the inside of the drum) to get them out.

Try Plusgas and then use vice grips to get the old one moving.

They can come out either way.

You just need to remove that metal "strap" which on many old cars is rusted away any way.

I have welded a bar to the adjuster, and have then been able to get it moving.

When it has moved and is freely moving, I have then cut the end of the adjuster off where it was welded.
