An eBay bid of £400 resulted in me becoming the new owner of a 2005 Rover 25 GSI. 88k on the clock, 10 months MOT, just had the head gasket and replacement head fitted (old was was warped).

Picked it up today, and seems mechanically sound. Drove the 136 mile journey back without missing a beat. Got stuck in some heavy traffic at one point but the temp gauge stayed nicely in the middle.

So the bad bits:

Has a nasty rust patch on the boot. Strange place for it as the rest of the car is more or less rust free. Will try and find someone to sort that as I know if I try it'll look rubbish!

Drivers window doesn't work. This is due to a relay on the BCU. I have a mobile auto electrician coming out tomorrow to sort that. Apparently a simple job, but requires the new relay being welded to the BCU circuit board. I don't trust myself not to burn a hole in the board.

Tracking is out. Will get that sorted this weekend.

Blower not working on settings 1 & 2. Very common on these according to the net. Just requires a new resistor pack. Have one ordered.

Aircon not working. Button lights up when pressed, but not getting cold. Can't hear the compressor kicking in so something I need to check.

Leather seats are a bit baggy and scratched. Have been watching some great You tube videos on how to sort these.

Lexus style rear lights I don't really like. Car came with the original standard lights so they will be going back on.

No Stereo. Got a spare one I shall be fitting tomorrow.

Speaker cover missing from drivers door. Trip to the scrappy should see this sorted.

Speaker holes in rear parcel shelf. Again, hopefully will find a decent parcel shelf at the scrappy.

Gear stick is really sloppy. Think they all do this so might have to just live with it.

Needs a full service I think.

Alloys a bit scuffed. Something to try and sort later on.

Bottom grill showing a bit of corrosion. Will take it off (if I can figure out how) and clean it up

After those things, just needs a damn good clean up and some of the small scratches around the car touching up.

So today the lad come out and replaced the relay that controls the window. So that's now working.
I fitted my stereo, and the bonus is the steering wheel buttons work with it.
Fitted the original lights back on.
Went to the scrappy and got a parcel shelf and cover for the speaker in the door.
Tomorrow I want to get the tracking done and the air con charged.

Original rear lights deffo better than that  aftermarket rubbish.

Wonder if the R25 was going to be the carry on from original mini, till the GERRRMANS stuck their oar in? O_O

Have you thought about polishing the headlights up? Chance on here has a very nice ZS 180 and it made such a difference.

Yes that's one of the next things on my list, I think it'll improve the look of the car dramatically.

My mate has an MG ZR of the same age and he had a rust spot on the boot in the exact same place, thought his must have been caused by a chip but maybe its just a part with thinner paint?

Must have been a defect at the Longbridge paint shop or something.

Had a go at the headlights today. Used this stuff:

Light went from this:

To this:

Quite pleased with the result. Still the odd mark on it, but nothing noticeable.

Next step is to try and get the colour to return on the boot handle. Its under the black wiper so it really stands out:

Great job on the headlights. I bet the whole front end looks so much fresher now.
