Hello,

Can someone please help me. I installed a new loom and it came with wires ready for a stereo. So I have bought a unit along with a harness and a harness adapter to connect to the loom. The problem Im having is that I don't know what wires connect to what on the loom. If you look at the photos you can see what I have.

I have found the speaker cables, which is fine. Then on the other side of the harness adapter I have 5 wires that will correspond to 4 wires coming from the loom. On the harness I have:

Black - labeled - Chassis ground (12v-)

Red - labeled - 12v ignition

Blue - labeled - power antena

Yellow - labeled - 12v battery constant

Orange - labeled - illumination (which doesn't carry on through to anything on the stereo harness so i guess is useless)

Then coming from the loom I have 4 wires, 3 in one sheath and one separate

sheath:

Green

Purple

Black

Separate:

Black

The antena I bought has a connection that seems to go straight into the back of the stereo unit

So here is my question:

Which of the wires in the harness adapter connects to which of the wires in the loom?

Do I have everything I need here for the unit to work?

Another couple of questions I had were:

Will my stereo have a memory so that it can save presets?

Will the unit turn on and off with the ignition?

will my antenna go up and down with the ignition?

What is the orange illumination wire?

Thank you so much for your help

Oli

So I think I have worked out a bit of it.

It would seem:

Green is fused ignition - this would connect to - Red 12v ignition

Purple is fused battery - this would connect to - Yellow battery constant

Black is earth - this would connect to - Black chassis ground (12V)

However there are two earth cables. Does it matter which one I connect to?

Many thanks

Oli

Hi Oli,

The orange " illumination" wire goes to the side/head light switch and when you turn on the side lights it dims the stereo display for night time driving. You don't have to connect this orange wire, it's a matter of individual preference.

Cheers, Steve.

Oli,

If you're not sure about the earth, make your own. It only has to be a wire connecting to the bodywork anyway. I've put my own earths into headunits on other cars before, to cut down on noise in the system, so it has that benefit too.
