Having problem with fitting monza style fuel cap. Managed to fit threaded ring on fuel tank neck with rubber mallet only to realise that the chrome part takes only two or three turns before gets stuck. Any advice on how to remove threaded ring to come back to original cap?

Sliding hammer with hook attachment?

I use a rubber mallet to get the main cap on n off, to release the threaded ring either a puller or flat chisel under the ring, a good cloth over the seam and gently tap away until it releases

I spent a lot of time researching this exact subject. My dad had a full respay to get a concours finish on a car and was concerned that to maintain that we would have to take the arches off every now and again to have them sprayed as the enivitable odd stone chip happens. The only way to get the arches on an MPI off is to remove the tank and to do that you need the ring off. Having spoken to a few people on here and spoken to mini spares and mini sport, including talking to a mechanic at mini sport the answer kept coming back as....... cut it off with a hack saw. The ring is available as a separate part for a couple of quid so a replacement part is needed.

Managed to remove it with a sliding hammer. Took only a couple of minutes :-)
