Step 1, drive a 20 year old car that I've bought without seeing first 185 miles home.

Done.

Seems to be in really good condition, no visible rust, looks solid underneath, 45k miles, no oil or water leaks. I've done over 300 miles since buying it now an cant find anything major up with it, just the clutch coming to the end of its life.

It seems a shame to modify it to be honest, it really does seem to be a solid example. Obviously its slow but not as slow as I was expecting for a 1.1. I forgot how much fun an old car could be! Its definately got something of the Mini about it, not as good but there's something there.

There's a RWYB event at York raceway this weekend and it tempted to send this down the strip just for a before and after comparison   Should be a laugh.

Bought some wheels and gave them a paint:

Hopefully the Metro conversion goes a bit quicker than getting it all in here did!

Shame to change the wheels to something less sleeper.

Yeah, the only giveaways will be the wheels and the larger exhaust, although lower down in this thread gives me ideas for hiding the exhaust: http://retrorides.pr...0-ascot-sleeper

I've used an MG TF steering column universal joint to take out any play in the gear linkage. Its possible, but needs welding.

Take out the splines part way with a die grinder:

Add a little notch for the bolt:

And bolt it on:

Still need to knock this end out, but its solid!

The steering column rod is 18mm and the gear linkage is 16mm, hopefully with the splines though it will take the 16mm gear linkage and I'll weld around it to hold it solid.

If a jobs worth doing, its worth doing cheaply!
