Hi guys looking to do a dual carb conversion on my 96 spi mini

Which set of dual carb do you recommend for stock displacement and stock head and block !!

Do I have to change the distributor when I do carb conversion ???

I would fit a single HIF

Sure there are many topics on this. As to what to change depends on what core parts/system you are keeping.

You are really going to confuse your ECU. Expect a few  permanently on, warning lights.

If you really want to... twin HS2's.but an HIF 38 or 44 will do the job admirably.....  the Spi dizzy is just that - a dizzy - there's nothing inside other than the spindle & rotor arm -the ECU controls all...... so if dispensing with the injection system & ECU then a 65D4  electronic jobbie should do the trick....

Its a bit more involved though so - read existing threads on the topic... :-)

As Wile e coyote says, the ECU does a lot more than just the fuel injection. Although the Mini ECU is a lot more basic than current cars it adjusts the fuel mixture and ignition timing, among other things, depending on the readings obtained from various sensors. So a sensor like the water temperature sensor, for example, is wired to the ECU to allow the fuel mixture to be richened when the engine is cold, similar to a carburettors choke knob. Wiring is quite a lot different, if you look in the Haynes manual you will see extra pages for the injection cars as opposed to the carburettor ones. Often it's not just a question of swapping wires around as wiring to the ECU is noticeably thinner due to the low currents carried, so a new loom may be necessary. Your existing fuel pressure will be too high for a carburettor so a fuel regulator will need to be fitted and the fuel return pipe blocked off.

There is quite a lot to it, but it can be done if you know your way around your car. Good luck.

Eh? What warning lights, you do know there are no check lights on the MEMS

Thanks for the correction and the MiniMania link, very informative. Obviously the Mini ECU is even more basic than I thought!

If you swap from injection to carbs, your main problem will be meeting the emissions requirements at the MOT as it'll be tested to the standards in place at the time the car was built.

Will that be a problem in Canada where the OP resides?
