my regulator and new mark turned up so everything is ready on the welding side, although I now need to make a trolly to hold the gas bottle so it doesn't fall and take out a wall!
I've set myself a deadline for the MOT before the end of the year, another YouTuber and TMF member has a car they picked up around the same time as I got mine moved so we've got some motivation to beat each other.
Currently the engine is still seized but ive left diesel filling the cylinders for a week now so hopefully that's doing some good, I've got a buddy coming to visit who said he will get it sorted so that's awesome!
Right, let's have a to do list:
Patch o/s inner sill
Finish welding in o/s/f floor pan in
Patch o/s heelboard/flitch area
Patch o/s/r 1/4 panel
Weld in new o/s sill
Cut off n/s oversill
Repair what's under it (to be discovered)
Patch n/s/r 1/4 panel
Repair n/s flitch
Weld in new n/s sill
Patch n/s wing (headlight surround)
Unseize engine
Fit exhaust system
Run new brake lines front to back
Refurb/replace brakes (possibly disk upgrade up front)
I'm sure there will be more that I've forgotten but that's the short list

I went poking with a screwdriver
There is also a patch in the boot but I might leave it alone for the time being.
After getting my gas bottle I was worried about knocking it over so I bought myself a trolley, meaning I can move the welder around the garage easily.
I've been spending as much time as I can in the garage, grinding and welding and grinding some more, I definitely spend more time grinding welds off than I do putting them on!
I picked up this awesome old toolbox full of imperial spanners and a socket set which should help me later on.
Part two of the video is coming along well and planned for the end of the month.

Great find on those old imperial tools! Should do you a world of good when working on your Mini.

Cut out
Template made
Fresh metal cut
Welded in
Painted
Definitely not finished, a few pin holes to fill but the welder wasn't happy by the end so rather stop now.
Far from the prettiest, didn't want to grind too much off, plus seam sealer will cover it anyway.
One thing I'm really struggling with is the rear off side brake drum is stuck solid and I cannot get it off no matter how hard I try!
Cheers

I've cut out what was left of the jacking point which I won't be using but wanted to check if I need to put something back in there to tie inner sill to outer sill?

I was just looking through this and thinking I have seen this before, and I watched your videos the other day. Your mini looks like a great little project. When are you aiming to have it done by? What sort of styling are you going for?

Awesome, thanks for watching!
My deadline is a planned mot before Christmas, possibly more like may for L2B next year.
Recently found out the wife is pregnant with our first, due in march so preferably have the mini to mot before then! Or that will delay things I'm sure.
Styling wise just low over 10s no arches, classic and simple. Any paint fixes will be rattle can job but I'm kind of into the patina look that vw guys love so unsure.
Future plans for 998 turbo and the car came with a body kit that I'd love to run at some point just because you don't see them very often now!

I've got this retro Recaro I'd love to use but it's huge and I only have one 😞
So front drivers floor is now solid I've moved further back and sorted th rear 1/4 panel out, I'm still learning to weld and it looks terrible but I did try to keep the panel cool and not warp anything.
Cut out rust
New panel repair made
Tacked in
More tacks
Fully welded and ground back, will need a skim of filler, I wasn't sure on grinding any more off.

I've been thinking about it for a while and it's just going to make it so much easier to clean up the boot floor and repair a few bits.
Only 8 bolts after all but the last one snapped 😡
Subframe actually looks not too bad, I haven't seen any big rust holes anyway 😄

No worries,
A l2B deadline is a good aim you could have it mot'd before hand and then you have some shake down time to drive it about before hand.
Congratulations on the little one, I hope all goes well, I am sure there will be some sleepless nights that you could sneak down into the garage...
Nice to see a mini staying with the classic look, I think that is best way, even more so for a car of you year. I am vw patina fan to so it would be nice to see that bought into minis a little.
Good luck with it all, and I am sure you will get to the turbo point very soon.

That subframe looks good to me, strip it down and good clean and powder coat or paint it will be good to go.
