Wow, Ben, you work really quickly! The damage didn't look too bad in the pictures, but now it looks like it was never damaged in the first place.

It was fairly minor Vinay. Just the sort of damage that let the car down

I can't see any reason why it won't be prepped up tomorrow and ready to paint later in the week :-)

Not a huge amount achieved today. I got roped into making some sills and arches for an MOt failure car

I got the paint stripped from the repair areas

ciuWvbF.jpg

And uncovered the patched up scuttle end from before. It had cracked in the shunt so clearly wasn't going to last if patched again so I decided to weld it up

I have done some more prep but it was bits here and there so no photos today.

Ill get that sorted tomorrow when I finish the prep

Cheers

Ben

Great work Ben I prefer the after picture (with the weld repair), you may already have it in hand but can you do the same to the other side as it's probably in a similar state.

John

yep, it's not looking as bad the other side but will need welding I expect.

I have ordered your windscreen too

Cheers

I removed the paint from the other scuttle end today.

Pretty ropey..

So I welded it up much like the other side

qBkFbxV.jpg

And then finished up the prep and moved it into the booth for matting, masking and eventually primer

And here it is after matting the paintwork on the lower half

Ill mask up in the morning and get the primer on and then the prep can continue

Cheers

Cheers.

I really like the colour too. It's very interesting in that in lower light, it looks quite dull, almost browney but in bright light, it looks like the colour of flames.

I think 'Blaze' is the perfect name for this colour

There's a GT replica in Cape Town in a similar shade of orange and a GTS in orange too. I have to agree, orange is a great colour for a Clubman. May I share some pics of them here?

Nice work Ben!

I do have one question for you though. judging by the bucket with water i assume you matted the side panel with water.

I've been told that filler attracs water, if thats the case than this seems like a risky operation.

Do you know something I dont? :)

I use a matting paste on a damp scotchbrite so i'm not saturating the panel. I don't matt over the filler so it only really gets the odd run of water going onto it which is immediately wiped off and then the panel is thoroughly dried.

The booth is also heated so any damp or moisture is quickly evaporated.

The filler in the panels is a very fine layer too so much less chance of absorption compared to a thick layer which may suck lots in and hang onto it.

Cheers

Ben

Here's the GT replica. A 1275 E shell was used, with an E interior and A+ block.

More progress to report today.

I spent the morning de-greasing and masking up ready for the primer.

I also prepped up the new door and hung it ready.

Then on with the primer

Once that had baked, I brought the door back into the workshop and flatted the primer

And then sealed up the fold on the door skin

And then flatted the primer on the front end of the Mini

And then sealed the wing to scuttle seams

In the morning, ill flat the primer on the quarter panels and then paint it.

Cheers

Ben
