I've stuck an engine in from the Austin 1300gt. For a variety of reasons I've changed the flywheel over to a minisport ultralight with matching back plate and correct clutch plate, this setup I know to have worked in my old engine. I've even taken the flywheel cover from the old engine as well as clutch slave to eliminate the issue.

I'm not getting enough travel on the clutch. Nearly enough but not quite. I've been scratching my head all day and have noticed a raised nipple on the flywheel bolt. The flywheel bolt is off the 1300gt engine, and I notice my bolt on the old engine is just flat.

I know the 1300gt engine engine had a 25mm flywheel instead of 19mm, and so I'm wondering if this raised nipple bolt is something to do with that and causing the trust bearing to hit the crank before pressing the flywheel.

I was hoping someone would say yay or nay to the nut being the issue prior to me further taking it apart. The engines in and its obviously difficult fiddling, let alone taking something off unnecessarily.

Thankyou.

The nipple is not the issue.

How much travel are you getting at the push rod?
1/2" or more us needed.

If you are getting that then you have issues with the cluch Assy.

Is it moving too far or not far enough? I don't think the clutch is moving in so far as to hit the crank, but maybe that's my mistake?

I assume that you have reset the overtravel stop and it's locknut to suit the new clutch? If not, you would have a problem. Wind them all the way out, get someone to hold the pedal fully down, screw stop up against casing and then 2 more flats, tighten locknut. All in Haynes.

Always worth double checking the obvious as we all forget quite important things fairly often.

If that is not the problem, the forum will suggest some more things to do.

I'm getting full travel on the push rod and had unwound the over travel stop to start. Going to have to wip it off to check I think. Least I can mark tdc which I forgot the first time I suppose. I assume the clutch plate only fits one way arround, but I can check that tonight . Thanks for the help

Hey Hustybusty, any luck with resolving your clutch travel issue? I too have done a similar thing with a 1300gt motor replacing my 998 and can not sort the clutch travel issue. The clutch components worked fine with the 998 setup but not with the 1300.

I'd say the problem here is the ball on the clutch arm and likely the hole on the plunger is worn.

Increasingly common as the Minis get older. It is partly caused by corrosion, so is dependent on age rather than mileage. I suggest that the use of molybentone (CV joint) grease on the new ball end may reduce wear as it is water repellent.
