Hi,

This is my first ever car project and some time ago I replaced the rear quarter panels.

My gap to the door is obviously close.  No metal is actually touching when I close the door.  Im still on the fence about what to do.  I have no experience to be able to say where to go from here.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

How tight is the door at the front edge?

We need a picture of the whole door in the aperture not just the back and front. We need to see the swage line in the door in relation to the swage line on the rear quarter and A panel.

Ok I understand.

At this time there is no front.  I have tac welded the new front end together to include the A panels.  This A panel is to be redone where this particular door is.

Are you suggesting that I may be able to move the door forward?

Thank you.

Yes us the answer there. Gap the rear of the door then the A panel. From there you can sort the front. Have a look at the Project Paddy link in no in my signature, the last few pages will give you the info you need.

I see,

If I move the door forward the top of the door (where the window rolls up, sorry if there is a name for that area) wont follow.

With that said.  After seeing your amazing work and great thread, maybe I should work at grinding away metal from the back of the door to find my fit.

Thoughts.

DO NOT grind any metal off the skin. All you will do is split the skin and end up having issues.

I have added metal to the edge which gives me the option to trim off and metal to get an even gap.

Post up a picture of the complete door in the aperture to give us a better view of what is going on.

Looks like the door could do with lifting up a bit?

To make the rear gap bigger you can use a block of wood(or a porta power) and whack the a pillar/flitch.

The other option is to remove some metal from the hinges(the part that bolts onto the door)

You might be better off using Photobucket for your pictures, its free. Use the IMG CODE which auto copies the picture then you can paste it on your thread.

That quarter looks like its had a repair on the edge there where may have caused a problem but if you post several pictures with the door fitted showing both front and rear views of the gaps, close up and distance we will get a better idea.

Yup looks like the quarter panel has some issues of its own
I'd suggest dealing with this which should help with your gapping issue

Ok.

I did install a new quarter panel. First time ever doing this kind of stuff right.

So I was puzzled as to how I weld the quarter panel in that area where the gap is too close to the door.  How are guys welding that on there?  Any pics would be great.

Thanks
