Right ok so I've got myself a little confused here, I've given my dad a few xmas present ideas and one of them was the DSN billet shocker mounts, but they're a direct replacment for the standard ones. Now I'm building a Miglia style car so getting it low is a must! So if I use say for instance Gaz lowered shocks with the DSN billet mounts, will there be any problems? Or will I have to use Lowered mounts with lowered shocks? Because these billet mounts are £75 (Yes I know thats expensive but I'm going for a removable front so I gotta have some trick parts) And I don't want my dad to buy them to then only find out they're no good... Because I've read a few posts about people running lowered shocks on standard mounts and things crash together or something? So any help and or definitive answers will be greatly appreciated!

Regards, Sean :)

The 'lowered' mounts (below) are to use standard height shocks but to still lower the car,

DSN mounts will be fine with lowered shocks and low ride height

If you are going really really low, you could use the 'lowered' mounts with lowered shocks, have a look in my thread here at my shock travel!

Brilliant!! I'm going pretty low, but the car is in a million pieces at the moment so I have no idea how low I really want to go without scraping exhausts etc Because i'm hoping to use a proper miglia exhaust but making some custom pipe work to make it a side exit rather than a centre exit so It'll naturally hang lower, but thank you for clearing things up!! Really Appreciate it!

Sorry to barge in on you like this, but is there a 'thread' anywhere called; 'Idiots guide to mini suspension'' What I'm after is the suspension equivalent to Vizards engine tuning bible. I'm running a completely standard set-up but everytime I get to see threads/photos like this, I just want to go into the garage & start playing! With my mini staying put, as a std. 998, need a project!

Cheers

Vizard did an earlier book called "How to modify your Mini" which had some information on suspension from memory. Pretty old school, but a good read

It's a cool book, worth a read, though I can't remember what it says about suspension.

If the lowered shock mounts are for standard shocks, does that mean they actually move the mounting points higher?

Soooooo

How low are you going?

How to deal with lowered cars and shocks.

Make the shocks sorter and have a shorter stroke. Remember to fit 1/4" spacers under rebound buffers.

Use standard shocks but mount them higher in the car. Remember to fit 1/4" spacers under the rebound buffers.

One thing to remember a miglia look car will not nice to drive on any road.

Std ones have the bolt in the middle.

Lowered ones are offset higher (and inwards) as described

Remember, shocks and shock mounts don't change the ride height. You'll need hilos for that.

The height you set your hilos at will determine whether you need to run different shocks and or shock mounts.

If you start bouncing off the bump stops the car will be awful to drive and you'll start breaking things

So I'm building my 61 right now, I have the lowered upper shock mounts and lowered Pro-tech shocks and brand new red dot cones on hilos, the shocks will not fit, about a inch to long, any ideas will be appreciated ???

Lowered damper mounts are supposed to be used with standard length dampers on a lowered cars as they move the mounting pin up to stop the standard length dampers from bottoming out.

If you are running lowered dampers you need standard damper mounts.

As I understand it, this setup should make the damper too short not too long. Daft question, but are the mounts installed the right way round ?
