1275/spi Gearbox, The Same?

Morning, I need to change the box on my '92 SPI, would a slightly earlier 1275 box be compatible and the same diff/gearing?

Any rod change box will physically fit (although you would have to use the relevant drop gears). In your case you are talking about a slightly earlier 1275 box so that would fit. I think the 1275 non Coopers had a slightly different final drive ratio to the Cooper versions.

How confident are you the replacement box is any better then yours? They all end up with the same faults through wear. Unless something majorly went wrong.

Not necessarily. A quality build and being selective (or corrective!) with gearbox cases can make a considerable difference.

Bits of mine came out with the oil, so I've either got to rebuild or just swap it for another complete unit, so I guess any non SPI box would be fine if I keep my diff.
