I'm currently prepping the rear radius arms for paint. I was thinking of using hamerite smooth but think this may be too brittle,I went to halfords today and they want £8.99 for a tiny tin. Is there a recommended alternative?

Por15 from frost, expensive and needs careful preparation, but excellent stuff, must follow instructions to the letter.

Rustoleum is very much like hammerite used to be before they watered it down.

Hammerite is a poor product now

I like plastikote enamel. Rusts not something you have to really worry about on radius arms and you can get it in all sorts of great colours. Used it on my radius arms and brakes all around and still looks good.

Doesn't POR15 have to be painted ? because it doesn't like UV light and goes all whitish and cloudy.

And POR15 means Paint Over Rust. I've never used it but heard that it likes rust better than plain clean metal.

Yes can be overpainted with frost chassis black, I've used it on morris Minor axle and suspension parts, brilliant results.

Good old 'chassis black paint' is best.
