I just got a 20% off voucher for Machine Mart for use 2nd to 4th Jan, I've been waiting for one so I can buy a MIG welder, clamps and air tools to start my Mk1 restoration.

I'm thinking of getting the 135TE Turbo, it has good reviews, any opinions on this?

Might be worth asking them for a voucher if you're looking to buy stuff soon.

Or you could spend £30 more and get the 151TE, almost identical but still slightly better in a way. Though for the thickness you're going to be welding they both have a 30amp min setting. I've got one myself and have had it years!

Either way, ditch the nasty Reg that comes with it, complete garbage imo. Buy a nice new one with a flow meter and a pressure gauge.

Also you will find yourself having a much better time welding with a argon/co2 mix rather than just pure co2.

Only issue i have is that the gas bottles are just a tad small, even the 110L,

And remember, always clean your tip! Especially if you're about to get intimate.

By all accounts they are very good. My advice is don't bother with the disposable gas bottles, they don't last, get a biggun

I have seen some very, very nice welding done by people using those Clarke welders. I would be tempted by the 151 as it gives you a bit more power if you are making up shell bracing etc. Definitely go for either a BOC bottle or something like Hobby Weld, you want Argo Shield Light for thin materials.

The 135 is plenty and will happily weld 1/4" plate as i have done very often. If you have the money then get a 151. Use 5kg spools of .6mm wire, buy plenty of tips and shrouds while you are there.

Also buy some twisted wire cups while you are at it.

Everything i have welded and shown on here is with a 135

Cunning those Machine Mart boffins - Every time I get a 20% card I think nah I don't need anything, then find myself loooking on their web site for things I think I'll need in a few weeks so I can get them VAT free
