I love that the air box cover looks like a smiley :)

A great project, i've enjoyed reading about your progress. Keep going!

 it really does look like a smiley. I am just glad to have found one that didn't cost an arm and a leg.

Thank you for your support.

Nothing today. Just using some soap and water to clean the engine block. Then cleaning all the rest of the suspension parts. Sorry no pictures, I'll post them once I paint them tomorrow

Told you I would post after painting.

First off using this stuff. Since I dont have an air compressor, I thought I would give this stuff a try. Various suspension parts and engine parts and the engine all in primer. (There is a primer version that I didn't think about taking a picture until I threw it away)

Very happy with the results actually!!!

I'd love to do this too. Get all the suspension and engine parts removed, cleaned and painted. Looking good and I'm guessing the high temp paint will be more durable than a regular spray paint.

After finding out I had lost the thrust washers while moving last year and that I never ordered all the gaskets, I was pretty upset :mmkay: . So another order to Mini Spares and a week later, I started with this pile of parts

DSC_2391_zpssshyimeg.jpg

After ring end gap, I assembled the Rods and Pistons

DSC_2392_zps3uzs5jv0.jpg

Next up on the list was installing the ARP Main Studs, and checking Main Bearing oil clearance

DSC_2393_zpsda3cl7oj.jpg

Then installing the Crank

DSC_2394_zps9joeu01c.jpg

Since I didn't have ring compressor, I installed the cam, oil pump and timing chain

Well PIC from last night. I meant to take more, but was having issues with one of the rod bearings being too tight, so after switching a couple bearings around got it all sorted out.

After this picture was taken, the rest of the Pistons were installed. I was about to place the block on the transmission, but I came to find out that the ARP Main Stud Kit is a little long and wont fit....curse my life  :mmkay:  :mmkay:

So I will sorting out this problem.......

Wow its been two weeks already. I emailed ARP to find out what they recommend. Never got back to me.

So I took matters into my own hands and just cut the darn studs

I then continued where I left off and reassembled the rod bearings and after checking the transmission fit (you live and learn) I continued to torque everything down.

Putting new gaskets on and placing the transmission on the block and bolting it down. That was a glorious sight

Followed by the transfer gears and primary gear. Another gasket and the clutch housing....more torquing of bolts

Followed by the lightened flywheel and new clutch disk with more torquing of bolts

All to come up with THIS!!!! :proud:  :proud:  :proud:  :proud:

Well it happened. I guess when I welded the left filtch panel on, I welded it out of place. Taking some measurements from my other Mini, I found that it was about a 1/2" (13mm for you guys) off. So out came the spot weld cutter and off came the bulkhead welds. Using some leverage to put it in its right place, I started mocking everything back up before welding it.

Sorry about no updates. I have been super frustrated since the photo above. Turns out there were all sorts of problems and I just got frustrated at every turn. So I went on vacation for 2 back to California where I picked this:

The floors are in really good shape. Needs some heel board attention, the sills are gone, and obviously needs fenders. Worst part are the rear doors. Those are going to be a challenge. So I am really excited about this project.

So 2 months later, I sat in the pickup for a couple days, measuring, scratching my head, comparing to my other minis and FINALLY buying a full metal front. I finally beat it all into place.

I have been accumulating tools and stuff so I can keep going on other things that don't involve body work

And that brings us uptodate
