Hi guys,

I'm trying to remove the lower arm pin to replace the bushes.

As you can see from the picture, I've removed the nut and freed the lower arm pin from the subframe.

However, the old bushes are stuck...

How would you go about removing them?

I've tried using a philips screwdriver, WD40 and some light tapping but they still won't budge... any tips?

Pull push burn whatever is needed.

Why are yo using WD40? It has little use for anything.

Burn them out is easiest mate, most likely the inner sleeve part of the bush is fused to the pin any how.
Just burn out the rubber part of the bush till you can take out the pin

Hold onto the pin with a pair of mole grips and twist the arm back and forth.

You'll probably find the steel sleeves inside the bush have seized onto the pin but the rubber section should come off with the arm.

When you come to fit, make sure you've taken out the inner metal sleeves from both the inner and outer bushes. My inner one had seized on so I threw it into the vice and used a set of mole grips (don't go too tight as you'll crush it on even more).

Keep at it, I'm doing a 73 clubman ATM that hasn't been used in 19 years. I believe the bushes are the same from factory!

Thanks a lot guys - I've just solved it.

You can shimmy the fat end of the pin through the subframe - then you can take the pin and bushes over to a vice and just keep prying until the bushes come off.

They were rusted very firmly in place. Not looking forward to doing the other side!

Hope this thread helps others as it's not straight forward.

When you come to refit the new bushes, you may have a bit of resistance getting the pin back through to show the thread of the pin at the other side.

Be careful if just a little bit of thread shows and you get a nut on to help pull the pin through, be careful as not to strip the thread on the lower pin.

As well, the standard fitment is a locking washer with just a standard nut. I like to use a lock washer and a Nyloc nut, you don't want this coming undone, results would be disastrous as you can imagine.

For Track cars, i also put a split pin through the nut as well, just to make sure !

If you use some self locking mole grips to hold the the almost round end opposite to the nut then it'll add some tension to the rubbers. Remember do the bolt up when the suspension is where it normally would be in order not to add preload to the bushes and prolongue their life

It smells nice, especially when you burn it

Why do I use wd40? Well now I've bought plus gas there's no improvement over Wd40 plus I can get 5 litres for under £20

WD40 is a water-dispersant ..

Plus-Gas is a penetrating fluid ..

Mind you they do a WD40 penetrating fluid .... but I wonder if it's just the same fluid in a yellow topped can?

Come to think of it if WD40 is so good why do they need a specialist product? :proud:
