So my first project mini is back on the road with its original 998cc engine working well. It has a stage 1 on it and I like for the roads here in Malta.

I have bought a 1100cc engine from a friend for cheaps (40) euro.

Now I have a T28 turbo lying around and want to turbo this engine and possibly swap in the engine later for a bit more punch while still being able to go back to stock.

What carburator can I use from blowthrough set ups other then the HIF 44.

Can I user a bike carb or a weber, or even a normal HS4 ? what would be the pitfalls and the way to go about this .

I would not turbo the 1100 presuming it is a UK spec 1098.

Turbo the 998 sure.

Is there any specific reason why and if so can I fit the head from the 1100 to the 998 ?

You can fit the 1100 head, it's a bit better but get the CR right. Depends how wild you want to go I guess, the 1098's stroke already gives it more torque, the downside  being you're proportionally closer to breaking things if you use boost to get more. Then there's the matter of finding turbo friendly pistons with less room above the pin and more people have led a path for you with the 998.

Carb wise Hifs are just that much easier to seal against boost than a HS, and you can bring any up to spec with a Turbo service kit. Fuel injection is another option, there's an interesting topic on here by someone using an Arduino to control a Bosch single point setup.

Thanks for the answers guys iv finished getting the mini roadworthy with its original engine and dont really want to tinker with it. But im considering hillclimbing it this summer and 1100 lump with a turbo sounds nice and I have and engine available. I started making the header for it and all il Start a thread on that.cheers.

pointless as you will be up against 2L cars. as you will be over the 1.4L category change most events use.

one reason you see (or used to see) many sub 1L a series with forced induction.

In malta the catagories are very different here its done based on output rather then engine size or displacement.

I would still turbo the 998 rather than the 1098.

yes.

the shorter stroke crank is stronger.

now here is me thinking out of the box here but use the 998 crank in the 1098 block and deck it to give the needed low compression... ok most likely way of track here but I would get thinking about what would work together best

it my be 998 crank 1098 block with 1275 head......

it is not like your SPI kit would not work on that....

1098 and 998 block is the same. Crank and pistons are different.

Also decking the block will raise the compression, and so will fitting a 1275 head unless the chambers are enlarged from standard.

Phil.
