If you have fuses with Blue/white (Main) and Blue/red (Dip) thats a odd loom you have Cal, so if you take the fuses out do the headlight Dip/Main still work ? I've not seen one nor do any of the factory wiring manuals per year show those fuses. Odd indeed, I'm not doubting you but how they got these is a mystery.I'm interested to see what happens to the headlights if you take the fuses out? You should not really have 1 fuse controlling 2 lights, and a secondary note if they do indeed control the lights is the wire the same gauge? if so you have double the amps on the small gauge wire, what size fuse is in the holders.
 
When you take the fuses out do the connectors look factory crimped or soldered ?
 
Wonder if earlier in life they were fitted by a previous owner as the feeds for a fog/driving light relays?

The original 4 glass type inline fuses fitted in the location mentioned are factory style, on both looms too.

Both looms were fitted with 15amp glass fuses. If I remove a fuse either the dip or main will not work. I will update the thread with a couple pictures :)

These 2 looms use the 4 fuse fusebox(as on pre 1990 cars) has a dim dip. The loom runs along the n/s floor, weirdly the speaker wires run up the pillars and roof like on pre 1990 saloons....

Note the speedo binnacle multiplug and dim/dip relay plug(with pink top)


This shows the wiring colours(not very clear, sorry) blue/white, blue/red

And you are sure they are for the headlights?

Have you got an extra pair of lucas connectors behind the grill then too?

The main beam and dip beam are connected as a pair behind the grill normally so how could you fuse each light and filament individually with a standard loom?

Those fuse holders and wire look very new, the fuse holders dis-colour after a few years, those look brand new and the loom looks very new ? wonder if this is a after market loom where someone has made that mod, I've not seen it before on any of the wiring diagrams?

I'm just looking at my standard 1995 car (spi body carb car) mine definitely doesn't have those fuses and the factory lighting wire are a lot thicker than those, of course they are taking double the load if Cal's has four wires to each light, then again keeping the wire thickness the same would make the lights brighter as we know they are once fed via a relay.

Are those feeds going to relays somewhere?

Have just finished restoring a 1993 rover Sprite Carb model! and it had the same fuses in the same location!

they were 4 inline glass type fuses in the original loom not patched in! what I will say is that when I striped

the car 2 were in poor condition i.e. burnt brown and someone had previously boged 1 up with those awful

blue crimp terminals and a blade fuse!!! The only wiring diagrams I have now are the Haynes ones and as

far as I can see they are not listed, thought they might have some relation to the other JRT/MG/Rover or

whom ever at the time wonder Dim dip head lights

Sorry for the late reply, got a virus, the wiring has been wiped clean, it is the original factory loom. There are a few spare terminals
2 fog/driving light connections
Also a few(3/4) along the rear pan area of the loom, unsure of what they are...

Another showing the repair I have done to my own car( melted the stock fuse holder) also gives a rough idea of the position on the car
