Hello,

I'm not sure if there is a voltage stabilizer on the back of the fuel and temperature gauges on MPI.

On other model I know that there is one (LUCAS parts BR1303/20 ) minispares number : BMK1539A

But I saw the back of Mini MPI gauges on forums and Ebay, and on MPI this part is not present.

Its for my MPI Cooper Sport year 2000.

(because temperature and fuel gauges are always low ....

And my Skykes ACR4 saw nothing wrong.

Thanks.

Eric from France.

I don't think the gauges have anything to do with the engine management. The Nippon instrument pod has the voltage stabiliser built inside.

Yes there's a voltage reducer I believe! Goes from 12v to 6 if I recall

I have 2 instock I think

There's one inside the instrument pack

Pretty sure the signal for the temp is PWM from the MEMS ECU, the sensor is read by the ECU and the gauge signal comes from the ECU. Is your ACR coolant temp consistent with the gauge ?

The reading of the data streaming of the ACR4 is correct.

But the water coolant temp gauge always goes at 1/3 ;   never on the line on the half of the gauge.

And when I refill the fuel tank to the full, the fuel gauge go to 3/4....

It's boring !!! because after less than 100 kilometers ; it goes to empty !!!

PS: I had already changed the petrol tank sender unit Inside the tank.

Steve220 and CIAN are you sure there is a voltage stabilizer ?

Where is it located, have you the reference of the part ?

Many Thanks for your help.

I made a new dash with new gauges and that exact same thing happened to my fuel and temp gauges, researched the Haynes and found it needed a reducer, wired an aftermarket voltage reducer and it worked

It's integral. Without having a set of instruments in front of me, I couldn't tell.

Both temperature and fuel gauges are a single part actually and I'd say the voltage regulator is also "embedded" in that single part. At least, I couldn't find any separate part that could be the voltage regulator. Cheers,

That's pretty much how I guessed it. It's the same in rover 200 R8 series.

the voltage regulator, as suggested above, is integral to the nippon gauges and is not replaceable

Great, that identifies the three terminals of the embedded voltage regulator. There should be 12v between two of the terminals and ?v between other two of them, right? Would it be possible to check if it is working well by measuring those voltage levels? Cheers,

This week-ends job for me was to sort out the Voltage Regulator in the MPI

Dash is now out
I've got the part(s)
BUT [there's always a but]
the Thread with the great photos has been 'screwd' by photobucket..!!

http://www.theminifo...howtopic=146533

does any one have a usable set of these photos to work from.
I'll even do some new ones while I do the job if it helps... :D

[p.s. I knew I should have printed them out when I first saw them... doh..]
