Hi all, I have a question about what causes posts to be locked, ive noticed recently that admin often lock posts where discussions start to go on, the most recent regarding bolts/brake calipers (there are plenty of others as well).

I totally get why they would be locked if people started being rude, or there was some kind of legal reason behind it but when people are having reasonable discussion and even including potentially useful info behind their side of argument surely that's the point of forums???

Please don't see this as having a go as this forum is probably one of the best out there, just wondered if there was a reason behind it!

If we didn't do things like this then the whole place would go quickly down the toilet and descend into chaos. It's good to have healthy debates and discussion, and more importantly remain "on topic", so as not to detract from the original posters question or query. I've been moderating on this forum 8 years, and have seen TMF through good times and bad. We have an excellent team of mediators and admin, it's a very fine line trying to keep everyone happy whilst ensuring the rules and regulations are complied with.

We try and let healthy debates go on BUT when members start to make factious and detracting comments then we step in, whether it's to hide a particular post or thread and if required the whole post.

We do have people who feel they are the last word in technical issues etc and their constant babbling gets on people's nerves. We step in then to moderate where needed.

If a thread gets abused then again we will step in, issue warnings and in a last case resort a ban.

Of course we are always looking out for spamming which fortunately is nowhere as bad as it was several years ago.

On the whole the forum ticks over quite nicely with very little interaction from the forum team but in the background we do keep a weather eye out on things.

Members if they feel aggrieved by having one of their posts removed or hidden, they are more than welcome to pm a member of the team to see what the reasons were. We are not a dictatorship, we do this for the love of our cars. Nobody is paid for doing this, we all freely give up our time to help out on TMF and so anybody who feels otherwise is incorrect.

As part of the Admin team we do not tolerate abuse to any member of the TMF team and will deal with transgressors accordingly. If anyone has a particular gripe then you can pm any of the team.
