Miki Spares have got open and closed lengths for saloon and van/estates here. http://minispares.co...c/C-STR308.aspx

Going by their number a van damper is only 10mm longer than a saloon when closed. Probably not enough to save the tyre from contacting the arch.

The best way to work it out is to test it by removing the trumpet, then move the wheel to see how far it will go. While you're there, remove the shocker and measure the compressed length you need to avoid contact, from the mount in the body to the lower shock mounting stud on the trailing arm.

<Edit: - (sorry I missed the quote!)
The factory figures for shock lengths show the Saloon ones 15 mm shorter than the Van / Estate / Pick-up types. Not all manufacturers adhere to factory figures, not only for Mini units but all cars as they tend to have a range of standard bodies on to which they fit appropriate ends. I suspect this is why and how some shock manufacturers work to body lengths in stead of mounting point lengths.

Also, there is a reason why the factory fitted different length shockers to the rear of the vehicles. If they could use the Saloon types, be assured, they would have.

I also recall *** I think *** that the last Sportspak Minis that were fitted with 13" wheels had a shocker fitted to the rear that was about halfway between the standard saloon and van shocker in length. I think A-Cell could shed some more light on this if he's around. >

I did read on mini spare website that sports pack cars had either spacers where the knuckle goes into the cone or knuckles with spacers for the later cars
but I would of thought high-los would of done the same thing
Will be having a look this weekend unless it's still freezing

They only fitted the extended Knuckle Joints on the fronts of the very late cars (all models), it was to level them out as they had more 'stuff' up front and so quickly took on a nose down attitude. They fitted standard ones in the rears.
